Speedway Accident

Saw this on the R1 forum. Some people just don't get it.

CONCORD, N.C. — Two motorcyclists were killed in a head-on crash following a rally to honor Vietnam veterans at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Witnesses told WSOC-TV that the two motorcycles were traveling at speeds of more than 70 mph when they wrecked around 5 p.m. Sunday. The motorcycles were at the top of the track traveling in opposite directions, witnesses said. They collided when both drivers turned deeper inside the track in an attempt to avoid each other.

WCNC-TV identified the two drivers who died as Alan Rochard Mockus, 66, of Alto, Ga., and Thomas Franklin Hillingsworth, 71, of Piedmont, South Carolina.

The victim who remains hospitalized with “major injuries” is 56-year-old Deborah Lynn Mockus. It was not clear where she resides.

The crash happened shortly after a gathering that attracted thousands of people attended a day-long Vietnam Veterans Homecoming Celebration. The free event was sponsored by the USO of North Carolina, the N.C. Association of Broadcasters and the Speedway.

The motorcyclists who were killed joined in on the procession on their own accord and were not affiliated with a motorcycle group, WSOC reports.

Larger motorcycle groups said they coordinated with members, advising them not to ride above the white line and to maintain speeds below 35 mph, the station reports.

Yup. No gear with passenger on a track going opposite directions. GENIUS.

Sounds like everyone is getting sued.
