A looonnnggg time ago I did on an HD Sportster.
I lived in New Orleans at the time, summer of my 16th year.
With the little fuel tank I had to really plan my gas stops, I wound up bungee cording a 5 gallon can to the back of it.

Make sure your tires are good and raise the pressure a bit.
Carry some chain lube and a patch / plug kit, maybe a quart of oil.
A Camelback would be nice. There were several stretches that got long and thirsty.

Aside from that, go do it!
Life is an adventure, go!

Yup. Made the trip several times. Just took extra fuel with me. Had (2) 1 gallon gas cans bungee'd to the saddle bags.

I once rode through 40 states on a 92 ZX7. Took me 11 mos, but it was a blast!
The memories I have from that trip are priceless

Depends on your route.
There's stll some KOA campgrounds along the way, and if you're sleeping in your car most Love truck stops are fairly safe and you can catch a shower too.

i have never done it on sport bike, have done it on harleys... and unless you fly low and do long hours do not figure it to be faster than a car... you are going to stop more often for fuel and i never really like more than about 14 hours a day...and get used to the folks at the gas stations asking questions and wanting to talk about your ride... always get the folks who wished they were doing what you are doing...and i never liked being out on the open highways in west texas , new mexico, arizona or souther california when it was late at night...too many critters crossing the roads and i was alway afraid of hitting a deer or a coyote or something that i could not see in time to avoid, so i liked to most of my riding in daylight hours...
and yes somehow fix yourself a breakdown kit, and include a 2 liter bottle of water...
but it is an experience worth having

I am heading to the west coast on a 3 week trip leaving in June. I only have the route planned to get across AZ trying to hit as many twisties and staying off of highways as much as we can.
