is my wife ready for a fz6r?

Has msf, rode a ninja 250 all of 2008 putting almost 10k miles on it, but hadn't ridden since getting preggers with our first daughter the same year. she has a background riding small dirtbikes at her grandpas ranch in fairfield during summer visits

would it be dumb to buy an fz6r. I want a bike that I can ride as well, and she hated the one time she rode my 600rr around the neighborhood.

This bike will basically be my bike everyday, with her riding around League City from time to time just to shake the cobwebs. I want to buy this, and then pickup another 600rr for me and let her keep the 6r

Thoughts?

she's sat on the older fz6, but not the r model. It was the right height since shes on the tall side --- 5'7-5'8" ish and won't be having to tip toe.

Its the power im concerned about since shes used to a ninja250 and 110cc dirtbike

My wife never rode a bike in her life before she took the MSF. She did grow up as the only girl with four brothers, so she knows her way around cars. Anyway, the FZ6R is her first bike. She loves it and is great on it.

your wife is several inches taller than mine...my wife sits her sportster (hugger) flat footed but not much else. 10K is a fair amount of riding, is she comfortable with the idea? it would be sweet if she could get some putter around time on another 250 first, but it could work... maybe take the MSF course again and ride their bikes just to get the feel in a controlled setting. but this is really just me talking out my , you know your wife, do you think she can handle it?

My wife is 5'6" and it's perfect height for her. She flat foots no problem. It's a great easy bike to ride. I don't think your wife will have a problem.

We tried getting her on her dads 600rr a few weeks ago, and she seemed a bit gunshy. Considering the engine is a detuned r6, would the power and be significantly milder and more predictable?

The motor is actually a detune fz6 motor that was a detuned r6 motor from 2 generations ago. It's like 67hp at the wheel. I find that its power delivery is very smooth and stable. It is not intimidating at all. If you want we can meet up one day and you can take it for a ride.

I spent a year bikeless after my last accident, never a problem going back in the saddle

The FZ6R is quite tame yet not boring at the same time. If there was one thing I'd change on the bike it would be better brakes but that's just me speaking after riding my friend's gixxer.

100% agree on the brakes. Even compared to my old GS500, the FZ brakes felt kinda soft and lacking initial bite. But they do stop the bike well. I hafta agree, it is a tame, but not boring bike. Kinda like a playful version of the GSX650. I enjoy the couple days a week I commute in in after riding my 954. It's a welcome change.

I am sorry but IMO.. the fz6 is such an ugly bike.. we went through this with my fiance, she had her heart set on a fz6 and did not know a twin.. heck even a triple looked awesome on her, so it took me some convincing and proof of better machine/looks..
so I bought her a monster 796 as her first bike..
now.. price-wise is not that much of difference, but the twin engine, handling, and overall looks make a woman/bike combination perfect.. sexy as . She enjoys it and believes herself a better choice between bikes

Fz6 is naked bike. Fz6r is a fully faired sportbike with standard riding position. Did you not see the read the whole thread?

I would think she would be just fine as long as the ergonomics fit her well.

I would just suggest practicing in large safe open area to get used to the different feel of getting started from a standstill with the I4.

It's a great bike. Very comfortable and very forgiving. More powerful than the 250, but no where near as touchy as your standard 600cc SS bike. Front brake could be better, but that is compared to SS bikes. For around town sport bikes this one is hard to beat. Some days I wish I hadn't gotten rid of mine.
