Great read. I couldn't leave the page!

I have tried to get a picture of the 'dad' (assumed) that drops off his child at the middle school on his green ninja. He has a matching green helmet, but only wears it askew atop his head, so that it doesn't cover his face.

I don't really want to bash him for not wearing gear - somebody has to be the statistic, but I would like to know why he bothers. And how does it stay on while he's riding?

Personal choice is personal choice. Will a helmet help prevent a possible injury? Sure it will. I can also prevent possible injury by not getting on a motorcycle in the first place. Rarely do I ride without a helmet (mainly out of respect for my wife's wishes). But last week I just went a couple miles down the road and didn't care about putting a lid on. As I was riding, first thought that popped into my head ", I sure do miss this". And I do, I really do. I loved cruising without a helmet.....crotch rocket is a different story, will always have that helmet on. But cruising.....with no lid, completely different experience. And that's what it's all about in the first place, the experience. We ride motorcycles because of the experience it gives us. Some of us may just cruise, others might be speed demons out there in order to experience a different kind of sensation. So why rag on someone just because the sensation they want to experience differs from your own?

Who cares, who do you think cares, the people selling gear care I can almost guarantee that.

I agree with you to an extent, but why not just wear a simple brain bucket instead of a full face? It will still protect the skull while allowing a good amount of freedom.

I saw a guy flying down 59 (sportbike) with white over ear headphones. It made me smile, to each their own.

If you really want to understand the decision to ride w/o a helmet, talk to a dog that like to stick it's face out the window of a moving car.

...you should understand/realize that he has a much better idea/cocpet/experience of the risks involved than yourself.
