SWITCHING BIKES

so as many of you know i got a DUCATI 1098 as a in between bike after i crashed my BMW... but i dont really feel comfortable riding it. not sure why it just doesn't feel right...

so thinking about jumping back to a CBR1000RR what are your thoughts???

stick it out with the DUCATI it will come around
or change it to the CBR1000RR ???

feel free to discuss why you gave the opinion you did...

well, to me this is about you, not about the bike...if you are not comfortable with the bike, move to something you are comfortble with... but do you know that you would be comfortable with the Honda, the 1000 is not going to feel quite the same as the 600 you remember...my sport bike is a honda because the ducati did not feel comfortable to me either, but I was comparing the 848 to the 600

You should just give it to me and get a 600.

With your track record the cbr will just be wrecked shortly

Wait, I really can't talk either.

Go with Honda, that's what I should have done.

How much time have you given the 1098? Sometimes they take a little bit to get used to. I've felt really awkward on some bikes at first, then grow to really like them after some seat time.

I think you need to further investigate why you don't feel comfortable riding it. If its because you're trying to make a supersport ducati a streetbike...then yes, they're NEVER going to be comfortable, and that's compared to all other supersport bikes which are already uncomfortable.

New or used? I ask because Buck Beasly has one(cbr 1000)for sale. That thing is trick and built to the hilt! Priced right, too. It's a little overkill for the street but if you plan on pulling double duty with it, well, it's ready to rock! V-twins require a different riding style than an inline, it definitely takes some time to get acclimated with a twin. But, if it doesn't suit you, or feel right, then you should get what you feel most comfortable on.

THis!!!

Sorry, I don't post them. I usually do small, spur of the moment rides. But I am going to try to get across the river again this weekend if you want to join.

keep the bike on the pavement and you would have more time to get used to it, lol. It takes time to understand the powa band and when and where to hammer it down. Again, I might be bias here, but your wanna go from a ferrari to a honda is just crazy. But your money, your bike

Last year, I had a 1098R, D16RR and the Biaggi Replica all at the same time, on the same type of dyno (250I) and on the same tracks. This is from memory and granted the Biaggi Replica is a little different from the Factory, the other two bikes were different from their siblings as well:

1098R RWHP 165 max....Cal Speedway 1:36's.....buttonwillow track 13.....1:58's
Desmo RWHP 173 max....Cal Speedway 1:38's.....buttonwillow track 13.....2:01's
Biaggi Rep RWHP 176 max.....Cal Speedway 1:34's....buttonwillow track 13....1:58's

The desmo is the hardest hitting 1000cc bike I've ever thrown a leg over. If you even think about exiting a corner under 9000K and roll hard on the throttle, it will spit you over (it put me through the windshield after the buttonwillow "S" turns and that last left turn is a progressively increasing radius exit!). It turns in well, but is a very stiff chassis, with minimal feedback and not very user friendly on the power curve. The 1098R needed new offset triples and a lot of chassis geometry changes to make it turn/steer and exit a corner without running wide. It is more stable than the others in constant radius fast corners. But, it takes more effort and energy on the track. The 1098R has the most user friendly power delivery. The Ape is easier to transition, easier at turn in, doesn't run wide and it's a little less stable in high speed corners, but it doesn't need much effort to change lines mid corner either. I'm not as tired riding the Ape on the track as I am with the ducs. The power delivery is night and day from the Desmo, but not quite as good as the 1098R. This Ape does have more on top compared to the 1098R and at a track like Cal Speedway, it makes a difference in the times. If I could do it all over again and only have one, I'd still take the Ape.

Since last year, I've sold the Desmo and kept the other two. I'm not one to let my toys sit in an office, nor did I want to throw it down the track or have an expensive engine rebuild after the 3 year warranty was up!
