Rough/Unmaintenced Road Thread

Hey guys, ive been riding around Houston and noticing some nasty spots and areas.

There are some massive pot holes near the 610 south exit off of HWY 59 North, i was in my apex already and leaning while counter-steering. The next thing that arrives in my vision of path is a huge pot hole.
This isn't just any pot hole this is a nasty ! Also if I didn't have my brights on I wouldn't have saw it coming, my lows suck

Luckily I was able to just change the counter-steering and slide right around it on a nice apex.

Any one want to share some roads or areas that you should watch out for around houston?

See ya round town

A bike won't lean unless you steer it

well its houston our roads suck so just assume every new road you ride on has its bad spots and keep your head on a swivel.

well, you said you were leaning while countersteering. That's like saying you were accelerating while opening the throttle

here we go

There's only one way to steer a bike. Don't let the terms confuse you. Unless you only ride on a drag strip, you countersteer every time you ride. You’ve done it since you were a child on your bicycle

That's called hanging off, not leaning. The bike leans. The rider either leans with the bike by staying centered in the seat, or hangs off.

And all this time I thought you needed to push down on the pegs to steer

Anyways...

All roads are crappy in this town, but Memorial may be one of the worst...

An apex is the halfway point between the entry and the exit of a turn.

Sullivan,

Good question and I have an answer, or several: Hillcroft north of 59 is ugly due to lane portions that have "sunk". This leaves a seam area where the concrete level changes up to 4-6 inches. Riding these lanes, especially if one changes lanes can be very hazardous. Recently they have been patching these.

Sugar Land around the First Colony mall area has some similar lane level--seam areas and similarly they are being repaired. I got caught in one of these and instead of making a lane change my bike was "railed" in the seam-trough, I relaxed and rode it through but was not happy.

The worst pot holes are they ones that are total surprises: filled with water.

cheers,
Lucydad

I just put on a brand new set of Dunlop Anti Pot Hole tires. I can't even feel the potholes now.
