Not all riders are road racing. It is mainly about looks on the street. If the guy wants to look good, let him. If you care so much and want to prevent an accident from happening, well, if he is not listening to his parents then heck, he is not gonna listen to anyone on here. Peer pressure is a and everyone has to learn the hard way. Each bike has a form and function, to each his/her own opinion/taste.
well if thats all he wants a bike for is to pose then yeah get the 600rr or better yet a busa, but when he starts to try to show off while he's coming or going and he hits the throttle he will know the difference between his bike and a ss

How many miles have you put on your 650r in the three weeks you've had it, is it even broken in yet? My friend has a 650r that I had a chance to try out. Not a lot of power down low but if you get it rev'd up it holds its own. If you haven't been running it through its entire powerband I can see why you'd think it was time to move on. Keep in mind that all the 600cc sportbikes are going to be even more extreme in terms of their powerband.

I definitely agree with the posters who suggest taking the bike out for a trackday. You'll get a new appreciation for what the bike can do. I know some riders with 600's and liter bikes that wish they had a sv650 or 650r for the track so they can concentrate on their form and skills.

You already have an investment in the 650r, why not take advantage of it for a while? You've already taken the big depreciation hit on the bike. Another 6 months or a year won't change its value that much. I guarantee in the long run you'll be happier if you take your time and work on improving your skill. There's no way that bike is holding you back yet.

i dont know why everyone thinks that every kid out there is tryin to do 160 on the freeway....im not knockin my 650 at all. i love the bike...i agree with all of what you guys are saying about i should learn the basic mechanics and develop on my skills on the bike that i had.maybe ill keep the bike a little longer to do these things..i really dont have time do a track day because im always working and going to school..i never asked you guys to sit here and talk about a decision i may make.if i wanted all that i would listen to my parents..but isnt the feel of the bike and posture and turning different on a 650 then a 600

Very different! Especially the 600RR. In fact, I would not even reccomend it as a casual street bike. The seating position is very aggressive (not comfortable) in comparison to some of the other bikes but, this is obviously your choice. Ride what you are comfortable with and makes you happy!

What moody said it is very different. IMO your bike stands out and few people have them. It's a cool looking bike mang! Keep that !

welcome to motohouston... its always the same people talkin .
The 650 is a lot easier to learn on, but its still possible to develop these skills on a bigger bike. It might be a lot more costly laying down a bigger bike.

actually, thats exactly what you did. You posted this thread for a reason right? To ask our opinion? I'm not giving you a hard time, just saying that if you ask for people's opinions you will gets lots of different responses. In the end, just do what YOU want to do, because only YOU have to live with it.

now, back to my opinion.....
