champ, are you seriously asking that question? Remember when you posted about sitting outside Ice Age and gettin chicks numbers....saying it was so easy cuz you had a bike. Well there you go, that would be attention.

Nothing wrong with any of the above reasons, it's your money.

My two major mods so far have nothing to do with racing. My first mod was to change the coolant to Evans. This as for reliability and longevity, Evans is not a race friendly coolant. My Second major mod was to rework my front forks to make them more comfortable when ridding. The 954 Honda is notorious for having stock front forks.

Not all mods are for racing. Some of us to them to better enjoy our motorcycles.

I am presently researching a VFR single sided swingarm conversion for my 954.

Safety, Comfort... and personalization.

There are only so many colors the things come in stock...and the design is the same. :-) Make it easier to identify if it's stolen too.

If it was a serious question and not just to start , then mods are easy to understand.

Don't like the sound or want more power? New pipe and jets or programmer
Suspension not just right? New shock, rebuild the forks
Don't like the stock signals sticking out? Flush mounts
That big hunk of rear fender hanging down bug you? undertail
Too much wind in your face? taller screen

The list goes on and on, at least for real riders who spend time on their bikes..

Then you have the "posers", who spend bookoo bucks on looks..

Or stunters, who add bars and cages to save their stuff when they dump, and rip off the stuff that gets in their way.

Kinda a silly question actually, like "why do people add shiny rims and stereos to their cars?"

My mods have been for comfort and further enjoyment of my bike. Sheepskin seat cover to make the loooong days easier, GPS to keep me from getting lost, MP3 to keep my head boppin', etc.

There are more things I'd like to do, but they'll start dripping my wallet dry if I let it get out of hand.

So would tires be considered mod or maintenance? Oil changes aren't mods (even if you switch up filter/oil brand/type), right? Would type of tire make a difference in the decision, ie. street tire to race tire or street tire to dualsport tire? Does changing the ride height by adjusting the rear shock count?

And yes, I'm joking. Just felt like getting the theoretical questions out there....

I did most of my mods to try and improve the handling of the bike and to help fit my size and weight. Others just for a better appearence. I will not be racing, but I do plan to get more into track days and hope that some of these mods I have made will help keep this monster on the road and or track. Any of todays bikes are a handfull and any little mod that may put the odds back in my favor is money well spent.
