Rider Down - Update

At around 5:00 pm last Thursday my cow-orkers 23 yr old son went down. He was on 610 near Wallisville Rd. Riding a borrowed bike. No gear. He hit the back of a stopped 18 wheeler at speed without breaking. He is in a coma at Ben Taub with severe head trauma and a collapsed lung. I suppose there is other stuff too, but this is the major damage. I got this info from the people at work, but I can't find a report. Everything I see is for fatalities, but he isn't dead.

Any one know anything more?

Thanks for your support. I will be sure and pass it on to Ron also. I just can't imagine what went wrong other than he was totally distracted or he saw something and being on a different bike he reacted wrong or paniced/froze.

Hope he recovers well and fast! Sorry for your co-worker. Must be really hard being a Mother or Father in this situations. I wish the fallen rider the best.

I agree. Where is your head at when you're out on 610 over in that area at 5:00? Trucks and traffic up the wazoo.

Despite the fact that it was a new rider, riding a borrowed bike, and absolutely zero gear on, I hope he pulls though because no one deserves to be in the position he is in.

A few smarter choices would have changed up the entire situation

I went by that scene right after it happened. I figured he didn't have gear on because there was a pair of tennis shoes sitting in the street.

It was on the southbound feeder just off the Gellhorn exit. Cops had the exit blocked off. Rider hit a stopped flatbed truck. Bike was blue/white, looked like a GSXR.

I was on the loop so I didn't get the full gorey effect, but I was close enough to read body language, and the witnesses were struggling with it. I tried all day Friday to find a report but never saw anything.
