little S.O.B. won't start

well ,the little son a won't start...
tomorrow is the first race day and went to get my togther... the bike and stuff was already loaded on the truck, checked the truck it would not start... ok, put the battery charger on it, it started right up..no big deal i expected that, the only time this truck gets run is on a track day or to go to the farm so it has not been started and ran in a month....
decided to listen to the little honda run while i let the diesel run and charge up...
the honda would not start...it would start when it was kicked over but idle very rough and slow, try to give it any gas at all and it would die. i took the gas in the tank out and put in fresh gas... same thing....idles rough for a minute or so and then dies and if you try to give it any gas at all it dies....
it ran just fine saturday before last and that was the only time it has run since Motorcycles Unlimited did the valve adjustment and tune up on it...strange....
can't race a bike that won't run... hope there is someone at the track tomorrow who has a clue what to look at here...has me stumped...

+1. If you aren't using Stabil and running the carb dry after use when it will sit for a while, the new gas can cause the float to stick. Tap on the bowl a few times and give it a shot again. Ethanol sucks.

the only way it will even try to start and rough idle is with the choke all the way down the butterfly valve open, if you half choke or full choke it will not even try to start....

well now it will try to start and will rough idle with half choke or no choke... but will only idle for about a minute or minute and a half and die... try to give it any fuel and it dies...
Stanton... every time i have shut it down I have done so by running it out of fuel the carb is dry when it is not running....hopefullly someone at the track can help me out in the morning or else I am a spectator and maybe corner worker

Did you take apart the carb and try cleaning it?

nope, it has only been run once since Motorcycles Unlimited put new jets in it and tuned it for the new exhaust... and that was two weeks ago... it was run dry and put away... i opened the petcock and tried to start it this afternoon... truthfully the carb should not need cleaning...

Seemed to run fine two weeks ago. That's strange - don't think gas would go bad that soon. Only thing I can think of is some trash got stuck in the carb. Bring it out tomorrow morning and we'll figure it out.

i guess it could have had something in the tank or the gas, but it only has maybe an hours run time on it since you guys rejetted it....I just was not thinking that would happen so fast....

Pretty quick Job to pull the carb, thats really the most obvious and quickest way to the bottom of the problem. Still doesnt make sense , if you use stabil I wouldn't even run the carb empty am turn off the petcock

Doesn't most all newer bikes have a screen in the fuel tank that prevents trash from getting to the carbs?

Too bad it's not an old chevy you could just cross a couple of plug wires and make it backfire.

Obed, sorry for the trouble with it. I figured you ran the gas out of it, just an idea.

There is a wealth of knowledge and good people at TMGP that can and I wager will help you out. I have had others help out with jetting, wheel bearings, you name it. Many times they were our competition. I have even seen offers of using another person's bike to finish an event. Most everyone there will want to help you get out there and have some fun. It's one of the best groups of people you will come across.

Hope it all works out for you.

man you got nothing to be sorry about,,, these little troubles are not your fault... it is part of owning and playing with bikes...we will get something worked out in the morning and we will get the little sob running or tomorrow night it will have a new carb on it and a fuel filter in line...who knows what I may do to that thing before it is scrap metal

You can have that carb off in 5 minutes.
From there pull the float bowl and spray some carb cleaner through the slow speed jet.
The whole thing shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.
Pull the plug and check it too.
If you don't feel like jacking with it swing by first thing and I'll do it while you wait.
