KTM SMR

I've spoken to the 2 lads I know that have had these. Any of you other gaylords have/had one? It will be track only. No street, no dirt.

Fire away. I'm listening.....

What's on your mind Dean? 950 or 990? Did you catch a glimpse of Grindio on his Super Duke at MSRH last month? Sweet bike, you'ld have fun.

they are the .

honestly like any motard you will have the reliability question. On my 450 I went about 2 years before i had to rebuild. The only reason my 560 had to come apart was cause of a thrown chain broke the tranny. I have ridden both at tracks like TWS (Texas World Speedway) and have had no issues. there are some bad motor builders on ktmtalk that can answer your questions and even build or repair your motors (ask jason)

If u get a 560 get the crank welded to cover that issue ..

Already covered valve issues and 450/560 crank issues with him. I am searching for my word document that outlines all the differences for the RFS motors and chassis back to 04.

I know I catch a lot of grief for blowing up tards, but the reality is that most of my repair issues were from the following:

PO (not who I bought bike from, but PO before him) leaving a nut loose after their own valve adjustments that snapped chain.

Hole burned in the piston - I later found out from the KTM gurus that many of these are jetted too lean.

Big End letting go. This falls on me for two reason. This was an ex-race bike, I ran the thing for over 2 years on the street, and through many track days, not sure of total hours, but I imagine it was time to go considering it was all the original lower end. Top it off with my boneheaded move of missing an oil change between track days and that killed it. I usually made it a point to change the oil on that bike after each track day and the oil filters every other. I messed my schedule up and after MSRH, the oil might as well have been sludge...VERY embarrassed to admit that, but it is what it is.

The final issue with the replacement engine issue when I said the with it, was an easy fix, I just got and moved on.

The brakes are amazing, power is all there. Maintenance can be higher, but worth it. Fact is, they are the . I'll stick with my CRF450, even though mentally, I think the KTM SMR is better.

Will I own another one? Probably when I come across the right deal at under $3,000 and the timing is right.

Well, I am bidding on a 450SMR and talking to another bloke about a properly built (maybe too built) Yamaha 450.

Not so scared about the Kaboom now although it was always in the back of my mind even with the LC4

As in For Sale? Send me a PM, especially if you like Duke II's in trade...

As for nowhere to ride, what about GSS?
