True but lets not skew the facts, I think it was saying that as he pulled into his driveway a car parked in front of the house. As if to say they pulled in as he pulled in. Regardless, still is fishy.

Yep, that's what I'm thinkin'. Too many people are not mindful of things like that...gotta watch for cars following you home at night folks, especially you ladies on here.

Yesterday on the way back home from Cleveland, TX I saw a white van without windows that had a ramp mounted on it. The ramp was made of expanded metal like you see on some trailers. I was like hmmm...the ultimate bike stealing vehicle.

Driveway robberies aren't new or unusual. About 14 years ago, I was on a jury that tried a guy caught in one. He and two others followed a couple in their new Mercedes from the Joe's Crab Shack on Richmond to their home off Memorial in Piney Point. The couple pulled into their garage but before the door came down, the robbers jumped from their car, run into the garage and demanded the car keys. These guys were unluckey. The couple called the Piney Point dispatcher who radioed the cars description to the patrol officers. The unit on duty was just pulling into the doughnut shop at Hillcroft and Westheimer (no joke, this was their testimony), when they got the call. They headed back north on Voss when they saw the car headed south. It had to stop for the light at Westheimer and pulled up next to an HPD unit. There was no radio communication between HPD and Piney Point police and the road has a wide median, so one cop jumped out, ran to the HPD unit while yelling at the Mecedes to stop. Just then the light changed, the Mercedes took off. HPD realized what was happening and gave chase. Just before Richmond, the crooks abandoned the Mercedes and fled on foot. One was caught and rolled on the guy we were trying.

We found him guilty in about two hours. He had elected to have the judge give the sentence so I don't know how much, if any, time he got. I had the impression that he would get off lightly if he would role on the third guy who seemed to be the ring leader.

This was no inside job and I doubt this latest one is either. They cruised around until they found a likely target and then followed the couple home. What I learned was to check my mirror before pulling into the driveway. If anything is suspicious I'll go around the block.

I didn't carry a gun when I drove a cab in Houston and I don't carry now. By the time you get your gun out, it likely too late. Being alert, careful and suspicious has kept me a lot safer than any gun could.
