Good People Do Exist!

Thanks much to the Montgomery County Improvement District employees who shared their gas with me today. And thanks to Nacho, who went home to get his can and come back to me to give me gas. Thanks to the truck driver who stopped to offer help. =) There are good people out there.

I can usually get 210 miles on a tank of gas, but typically fill up around 190 miles (two trips downtown and back), but today I ran out of gas at 189 miles. Unfortunately that was 2 miles from the nearest gas station.

I coasted as far as I could, then I got off, took off my gear, and started pushing - that's when the truck driver stopped. I got across the bridge and pushed the bike off the freeway over the median (up a hill in the soft grass) and across the feeder to the shoulder (that's where Nacho stopped). I continued pushing until I found some shade. Overall I pushed my bike about a half mile in 4.5" heels. I still can't find my A* boots.

That's when the county guys came over in their cart. They admitted they had been watching me since the truck driver pulled over and figured I may be out of gas. They grabbed their can (county pays for their gas) and headed to me. Their five-gallon can was pretty full and they filled my tank and gave me a bottle of ice-cold water!

I waited for Nacho to return with his gas can, so I could thank him, then I geared up and came home.

Only one of them asked for my number, though they all commented on my beauty. So, now, not only was I shown kindness by strangers, my ego got quite the boost. probably because I was on a bike.

Really? I would have stopped if I saw a man pushing a motorcycle. I'd like to think most of us on the forum would do the same.

But AFTER I stopped, I would point and laugh.

You should have parked the bike and did the pose in your avatar.

And Racer X is 100% totally right. There are a larger percentage of "good" people when you have .

How far did you have to push it? I would have just pushed the bike the whole two miles. It was my fault for running out of gas.

Mostly I just wanted to get off the freeway. They suggested I either leave it there and ride with them, or wait with the bike. that. I wasn't leaving my bike anywhere, and there was no way I was going to just sit there waiting to be saved.

Nobody offered to push the bike for me. Nor did I ask them.

That's all I could think about while getting the bike past the bridge so I could push it through the grass and onto the feeder. That part sucked. I was scared, no lie.

I don't need rescuing, silly. I would have just pushed it to the station and got gas. It would have been a pain in the , but it wouldn't have killed me. And now I have a story!
