Buell?

So after getting everyone on my about getting the cruiser/metric chopper...I've now got the thought of a Buell lightning. Either an xb12 or xb9sx

I like the styling, has power, can still hit the occasional twistie and well..it doesn't look like EVERYTHING else on the road.

Whats the census on the buells?

Ocasional twisty? Motorcyclist Magazine ranked the XB12 as the best cornering bike over 1000cc for 2006... Eric Buell is extremely innovative and has done a ton to give the bike great mass centralization.

Buells are pretty sweet, but they are quirky. Gas goes in the frame... oil goes in the swing arm... wheel mounted brake rotors... Harley engine... under engine exhaust...

But, they make a wicked amount of torque and are getting to be quite reliable. The XB12R has been around long enough to be tried and true. Personally, I like them alot! :icon_bigg

BTW... get what you want. If you're into motorcycling and change your bike choices based on what people say, then you've got it all wrong bro.

Expensive bikes and no resale value. Get past that and I like them too.

Well, it's that most of my friends are SS guys not cruisers or the metric chopper clan. Everyone I know loves to hit the turns/track days...yadda yadda...and well....the bike thats being built won't see any of those....

I'm not on the "ball'n" level to where I can afford a chopper/sports bike so...thus my situation.

FZ1 all the way!!! You are the perfect candidate. I just sold mine and miss her already. Do some research on them (the 01-05 received a ton of praise) check out www.yamahafz1oa.com they have a ton of good info.

my MSF class used buells, real clunky trannies and the clutch kept actin a foo. i didnt know black from white back then as far as bikes go but a lot of the people in my class told me that's not how motorcycles are supposed to perform. it could have just been because they were blasts or maybe just too overworked but i didnt like the way they rode...too unpredictable. (and they're made by HD...sorry i had to say it!). but by all means, buy one and tell us the real deal on buells!

one of my neighbors has the xb9, he loves it. He did something with the little underslung pipe, the sound alone is almost enough to make me want one!

Bought a new XB9R in 04 and put 11,000 mi on it in 8 months. You can find a used XB for cheap nowdays. Around 5k. I rode the dog out of mine and the thing was bulletproof. Is it gonna beat a liter bike in a straight line? no. Is it gonna shift like a gixer? no. Will it putt a smile on your face runnin the forest? Oh hells yeah! Had the race kit on mine (pipe,ECU) and really liked it.

Get a used one and let someone else take the bulk of the resale depreciation hit.

Still have it?

Do all HD dealers have buells on their lots? I think I need to go check one out and see if I even feel comfortable on it.

a guy at Man-screw-so Harley, tried to tell me that little Buell will "stomp" me light to light, (but top-end, it will get eaten by my bike.) That little -made V-twin pushin a C-note for horsepower is gonna leave me lookin stupid? As you can imagine I was quite surprised by this comment and took it as a challenge. I'm not sayin its impossible, but I'm not bettin my paycheck on it. If anyone can back this claim....please let me know. That would be quite the spectacle to see!
