New - Motorcycle Commuter on SV650

I stumbled on to the forum today and was inspired to register.

About a year and a half ago, I bought my SV650 to be a commuter. It's my first bike, and I commute from roughly Montrose area to downtown. It's a relatively short commute, and I have my choice of routes to take to give me traffic I can tolerate (I had been commuting on a bicycle for a few months before - the bike route is great for avoiding traffic). I started with an MSF course before buying, and I wear full gear (Olympia textiles, plus helmet and boots) any time I'm doing more than repositioning the bike.

In some ways, I'm the opposite of many motorcyclists (at least, many motorcyclists in the US). I race cars for fun, and for me, the bike is the workhorse, the tool, while the car is the toy. My SV is the only bike in the house. My primary racecar is a Miata, his primary racecar (and one I borrow often) is a GT3 Ride Smart, and his primary street car and our "stuff hauler" is a WRX.

I haven't done a track day on the bike. It's not that I don't want to, it's that my want to do a track day on the bike is relatively low, and it's lower than the amount of effort I'd need to actually make it to a track day.

I have doen a couple of longer rides (at least compared with my commute). I've done some "few hour long" rides in the Houston area, and I've taken the bike back and forth between Austin and Houston a few times. I haven't gone further, mostly because my boyfriend doesn't ride, and I'm not interested in doing a long trip without him or with him chasing in a car.

Overall, I enjoy commuting on the bike, but like anything else, there are a few frustrations, most of them inspired by other road users or the crappy condition of Houston streets. I've inspired some of my coworkers to take an MSF course, and I've inspired others to bring their bikes more often. We have a designated motorcycle parking area at work, and some days we just about fill it up.

Welcome. I have an SV as well and have a couple spare parts SV's if you break anything and know just about everything about the bike if you ever need help or reference. PM me and we can swap info.

If you want to do some changes on the bike, hit me up.

Finally registered! Welcome to the forum! If you still have questions about track days or anythign else, you should look through the forums and hear people's story and pictures and videos. I haven't done a trackday yet but I probably plan on taking it so that it could give me a better option on freeways IF anything were to happen (I hope not).
