and we're off to a bad start already

goto take the MSF class before you kill yourself, you're already way over your head w/a R6 as a first bike.

and you have to take MSF to get a motorcycle license which you have to have to be legally riding a bike.

btw, do you have insurance on it too? theft? they get stolen ALOT

then there's gear, lid, jacket and gloves should be a minimum.

don't get started. you have no clue, and people die from that everyday, let alone on a 100+ hp sportbike.

so eat some humble pie and learn.

and no actually i took the MSF before buying a bike. at least fri night and sat. of the course.

btw, here's what a MOD said about me, all true

if you're thinking about your kids more power to ya.

do them a favor and learn to ride it. cuz you won't do them any good if you're dead or disabled.

as for the "i won't do 130 everywhere" why buy an R6? vs a cruiser?

anyway, these are dangerous machines. people die everyday on them, some know how to ride most don't. don't become a stat.

and yes you'll get more "respect" after taking the class, but more importantly you'll gain knowledge how to stay alive.

Ok I am not going to start any .. Welcome to MH!

Might I suggest a Motorcycle Leather Jacket with Armor or a Mesh Motorcycle Jacket with Armor, Minimum Leather gloves, Leather Boots over your ankle... even better if you spring for sport boots with ankle support and maybe armor kneepads at minimum for under your jeans.

If you are thinking about your family there is alot better gear out there than a Carhartt and Blue Jeans. This is not a knock on you, to belittle you or anything just a polite suggestion to look into. Those things could save your life in the event that a cager hits you.. Its not always your lack of skills that causes an accident.. its the other drivers lack of attentiveness..

Oh my....

We're just trying to help.....if you wanted to save gas you should have bought a 250.

ticket for no liscense will cost you much more than what you save on gas.

Sounds like some MSF would do you good...

Take it for your family before you kill yourself.

Also, up your life insurance...

Aaron, though these guys might cone off a bit rough or rude(racer x).

You should really listen...a bike is not something you "just pick up" I thought this (kinda) when I got my bike, but with the help and advice of all the people here I know there is way more to it than that.

Msf will help you understand your bike and how to handle it. You will know what to do and why to do it...be safe out there. Keep an open mind

We would not want the next thread that involves you to have a RIP in the title.

I bought a bike for the same reason but I got a 250 instead because of the extra 30mpg+ compared to 600cc supersport bikes. I don't need the extra power just to commute, ya' know? I'm riding at the same speed as any commuter so I'm equally prone to danger as any commuting super sport would. The only difference is what you feel in the throttle. Whole point is, IF you're just getting a bike for the sole purpose of commuting and saving money, why not a 250?

I really don't want to start anything, I'm just giving out some pointers. Please, please try fix a LITTLE BIT of your grammar.
