Questions-cam chain tensioner & stinky exhaust

I have a 2001 CBR 600F4i with approx 2,500 miles. The only performance mod is a yosh slip on and it was recently tuned up with new plugs, oil, airfilter..... Anyways, I have two questions:

1.) I have owned 3 other Honda sportbikes before this one and even put a full exhaust system on one of them. This bike rides great without any flatspots in the power; however, when I'm done riding the bike, I smell like I have been sitting in a garage full of automobile/motorcycle exhaust. I NEVER noticed this before with any of my other bikes. Any idea idea why this one stinks? It's not blowing black, white or any other color smoke.

2.) I have read and heard that the stock cam chain tensioners are non-adjustable and are prone to early failure. What do I need to be listening for or should I have it replaced at a certain mileage to be safe? What would this run me cost wise? (Patrick)
