Unanswered question

So this is going to be my first time taking my motorcycle to the HOV lane and I heard it was free even for single riders. I also heard from others and from online that if I'm riding alone then I have to pay a toll. So now I'm just stuck in between which is right. Someone help me, por favor!

I've never had to pay for HOV lane as a single rider. Never seen a toll booth. Now, on the Katy tollway thing you would have to pay I'm sure.

I don't ever recall seeing a toll to enter the HOV. Maybe the one on katy does, not to sure about that one.

There are a lot of misinformation here regarding KATY Managed Lane.

HOV AND MOTORCYCLES
CAR, TRUCK, VAN OR SUV
Free during HOV hours:
Monday through Friday, 5 am – 11 am and 2 pm – 8 pm
Tolls apply at all other times.

There's now the I-45S HoT thing now too... short of it, as long as you're on a bike you should be ok.

This^. In addition, all other HOV lanes usually have a sign describing the requirements of use (a picture of a motorcyle and a pic of a car with 2 or more occupants). I take the beltway to I-10 everyday so I use both textag (beltway) and HOV (I-10) as long as the sign above the toll booth on I-10 says HOV and EZTAG you are good there. During the above mentioned times it will say EZTAG only.

When did this change? Before I moved away from Houston back in '03, a rider could take the Beltway or Hardy for free. Now I gotta pay? I guess it goes back to the old rule "If I have to pay a toll, I get to go as fast as I want".

they has signs posted on the freeway for your answers.. if it says toll then you need a toll tag.. Katy changes between HOV and Toll during certain times.

Pardon the mastery of the obvious, but there is a difference between a toll road and a(n) HOV.

Toll road - everyone pays, either cash or EZ tag

HOV = "High Occupancy Vehicle"; not a toll road, but for use only for cars w/ passengers inside.

==============

I-10 has them sectioned off but running side-by-side; one lane is toll and other is HOV if I'm correct. Nowadays there's all kinds of convoluted, hybrid, bastardized experiments. I say just ride on the shoulder.

Also, KATY Managed Lane is a hybrid of HOV & EZ Toll. That's the tricky one.

soon enough we wont be able to get across town w/o using a toll road

all roads will be toll roads and if you drive much you will spend thousands

I won't have a problem with tolls if Houston has 1st rated public transportation system like those European cities. The fact of the matter is most Houstonians cannot survive without a bike or vehicle.
