2012 CMRA Season Opener

Finally! Seemed like forever and this weekend marked the start of the 2012 race season for Texas. Glad it's finally here. I was in complete shock with the spectator turn out for MSRH, so may people and so many bikes, it was tough getting around the pits, I can dig it! Friday and Saturday's weather was a bit rough, but, we couldn't have asked for better weather on Sunday for the sprint races.

A huge thanks to the CMRA for hosting some of the best racing in the state. I'm super stoked to see them return to MSRH, again. Watching and getting passed by the likes of Derek Wagnon, Dustin Dominguez, Ty howard, Shea Fouchek, Ryan Andrews, Danny Kelsay and the rest of the fast guys was truly a blast! Brandon Cleland and Carlos Lescale's transition to the big bikes was pretty fun to watch, too. And the most notable Rookie Expert, for me at least, was Mark(fizzy)Windham. Way to step it up, bud! You were looking good out there

Looks like round one is in the books, and I'm already looking forward to TWS (Texas World Speedway) in March Note to self...stepup my training program, or at least start one...lol! These boys ain't playing.

What say you?

I'm glad it's begun too! I had a blast before noon, then it got nasty for me with 2 DNF's. Race 7 gave me the confidence i needed to run with the big boys, though.

The rookie expert race was epic! Reminded me of 2010 cuz last year RE sucked.

How about, what I heard, was Jakub Smrz's WSBK Ducati out there piloted by Shane Turpin?!

Ty Howard on Bridgestones?! Whaaa?

A classes are insane this year. Gonna be some battles all year long. I wonder how many times I will crash this year. 2 and counting.

Dominguez killing it on the 675... Wagnon getting the 848 sorted out. Lecale on the zx10. Ty on the might KTM. Cleeland on the new GSXR. I hear Wild Bill has a new BMW on the way. Man... I need some $$$.

Good to see you, Zo!

I cant tell yall enough how awesome yesterday was. Glad to see my friends bring it at the track. Racing is SOOO much more different than trackdays. I brought my brother, my friend who isnt into bikes and Princess in my car to come watch, they all had a blast! This pretty much sealed the deal that Ill race a few races this year as a pro-nov at TWS (Texas World Speedway).

I encourage anyone and everyone to race with the CMRA. The rush you get racing far exceeds that of a trackday and it will make you faster(if thats something you care about) You dont have to be the fastest to race. You just have to have the drive to compete and have fun out there.

Good Job on getting back up to speed Zo! You will pick up where you left off in 2010! Thanks for the kind words and encouragement!

It was great getting to watch some of you guys tear it up out there.
Congrats to the local guys that took home a couple podiums.
That Ducati team had the whole setup out there!
Some of the races were more fun watching in person than top pro races on TV...

Sunday was a perfect day for watching races. The viewing areas got so full it was a bit hard to see. It would be nice if some temporary bleachers could be set up between the two buildings at the apex of Sugar and Spice and another at the end of the pond in the carousel.

Anyone know how the number of entries compared to last year?

Wow... I corner worked Saturday & Sunday. I saw some ballsy riding on Saturday in less than ideal conditions. Sunday was some just flat out spectacular racing.

Gonzo, Brandt, Chris, you guys were looking awesome out there. Great stuff to watch!

Dustin on the Triumph was just ..

And now that I've gotten my 2 prov nov corner working days out of the way, I should be ready to grid up at TWS (Texas World Speedway) in March.

i got to the track at 1130 and was surprised at the number of trailers, support crew and race bikes - that place was PACKED..

watched the 3rd-15th races and left at 4:30 pm. Most races had 30 and some had over 40 racers. Way Cool.

Kudos to the MotoHouston folks who were on the track - you all looked good.. Even if some did take a ummm, agricultural excursion or two..

And that Ty Howard is one smooth, fast mo' fo' on a bike.

That is a nice facility with one complaint - NOT ONE DAMNED PLACE FOR A SPECTATOR TO SIT DOWN ANYWHERE.. Standing around for five hours is something my legs are not used to doing.

As much as it would be nice to have grandstand everywhere, people forget(or simply dont know) that MSRH (as well as other tracks) are normally private tracks, not places like Indy, or Daytona where they are meant to facilitate huge crowds.

For the size of the crowd that showed (both racers/pit cres/and spectators), I think MSRH and the CMRA officials did one of a job pulling it off. Lets hope in the future they can come more than once a year!

I tried to represent with my MH shirt but I had to wear that bright CW shirt over it, oh well.

I think they did a very good job, especially with all the specs during the lunch spec lap, there was a lot of people.
