after checking and assuring that the bike AND your gear are in a safe and working manner... the first few rides should be done at a much slower pace then usual.
as suggested by texlurch, exaggerating the body position at lower speeds will allow you to get more comfortable on your bike quicker.
Then, slowly increasing the speeds every time you go out for a ride, continuing the body exaggeration until.... well, never stop working on your body position.
I still practice every time I go out on a ride.
practicing body position exaggeration works awesome for noobs too
