Rider Down

A friend of mine here in Austin was on his daily commute to work when a cager on the cell phone failed to see traffic slowing down ahead and plowed over matt.
He is now in the ICU with a broken spine. All the prayers to him and his family. The driver of the car was ticketed and let go.

such a shame. had the roles been reversed and your buddy caused someone to get hurt on his bike he would have been buried UNDER the jail. such is the double standard.

prayers for your friend and hope for a speedy recovery.

let us hope that ticketed and let go means they have insurance to take care of your friends medical expenses and living expenses until he can return to work....
it was an accident and they meant no harm, but they should be responsble for it...

easier to prove cell phone use during time of accident than radio/beverage use

its all the same. When i drive i pay attention to my surroundings. My gf gets mad because i dont talk to her that much while i drive but in the long run i have avoided many accidents. You can change the radio or drink your coke when you stop especially if you are not a great driver. People get a drivers license so easily now which is bull.

If you hydroplane doing normal speed while paying attention and slide into someone that is an accident. If your stunting down the highway and lose it and plow a car that is negligence. Talking on the cell phone in traffic should be put into the second category and hurting someone due to negligence is a crime not an accident. I don't believe in jailing people for non-violent crimes but I do think that you should be held accountable for your actions and it should be standardized across the board not left up to an officer to decide.
