Starting Problem 1996 Honda VFR

I turn on ignition and instrument panel lights up.The starter spins and makes a whirring sound, but the bike doesn't start.I then turn ignition off put bike in gear and rock back and forth, put bike in neutral, turn ignition on and bike starts. This went on for a couple of weeks now bike takes more rocking to start any ideas???

There is no bendix on a VFR starter.
Like Chris said, it sounds like you need a new starter clutch.

The majority of motorcycles for that matter do not have a bendix.
