That's my bike! It's my first and only one thus far, so i can't talk too much about how it compares to other bikes. I'm not sure I've ever heard it called a "small displacement" bike though. However, i have seen the term middleweight used in magazines and reviews.

It does have three variable throttle maps, Rain, Touring, and Sport. Rain definitely dials back the acceleration and throttle response and makes it feel a bit like a smaller bike, but still with the heft of a bigger bike (it does weigh about 400lbs dry). So to answer your question, no, i don't think i would call it a real small displacement bike.

Let me know if you've got any other questions and I'll try to help you out! If you are looking to buy, used ones in the Houston area, even all of texas, are tough to come by as i experienced when i bought mine last year. I ended up buying new from Houston Superbikes (shameless plug: great shop btw). They are, as far as i know, the only dealer that carries Aprilia in town.

I thought Motorcycles Unlimited had one of these for sale??? If it's the same bike, it looks great and I checked it out every time I went in there. I say you give it a shot. You can never have too many bikes...well unless you are out of room like me :(

Motorcycles Unlimited definitely had one for sale for a while. Looked exactly like that photo. I wanted that thing so bad and I cannot even explain why. Beautiful bike!

They are really nice but the front forks are a bit lack luster. You can still find leftover Tuonos for about the same price as a brand new Shiver though. Much better suspension, better brakes, and 1 or 2 more horsepower.

Ducati also makes the Monster in 3 delicious flavors (696, 796, and 1100) if you crave naked Italian v-twins. I'd personally lean towards the Aprilia because it has ride-by-wire and is liquid cooled but I'd be happy with either one.
