again, im not a lawyer.

i was thinking "after he hits the ground after you shot him a few times", but i only typed the first half. if he is still a threat, go ahead (and reload) and shoot him some more until he isnt a threat.

NEVER threaten with a firearm or any weapon. EVER.

Some of these comments has me concerned for a few of you. I wouldn't have shot him if he were in my garage but as soon as he set foot inside my house, it's a wrap.

I still wouldn't shoot to kill though. Probably wouldn't shoot at all. What happens when they get out.

you shoot to stop the threat, death is a byproduct.

The switch in the wall that controls the garage door has a setting that "locks" the door so the remote control is nonoperative. The last option about "shooting" is kinda extreme but effective, plus you will make a good deed to society getting rid of this trash. Again if those are out on bail be extra careful and alert!

If they're in your garage, they are in your house. Property is property.

I still wouldn't shoot to kill though. Probably wouldn't shoot at all. What happens when they get out.

(1) Shoot to stop the threat. (2) If you don't think you can drop the hammer on someone that is stealing your personal property or possibly threatening your life or family, then you probably shouldn't even own a gun. (3) If they "get out" then you need more range time.
Replied above.

Shoot first... ask questions later.

IMO, these people were already on a rampage and they would have no limits as to what they would have needed to do to complete their plan of actions. Your lucky in my book because they could have went to extremes to do whatever they were planning on doing when they opened your garage door. That's scary if you ask me and would trouble my mind if I knew those bastards were still alive and quite capable of doing it again if they get out... , they could be extremely twisted individuals and could have grudges because they were caught at your place and they are probably aware that you were home because the officers could have possibly made told them that they were stupid as for breaking into a home that was occupied. Like I said, shoot first... ask questions later. You never know what could have happened or what will happen from now on.

easier said then done if you're a home owner, when houses are upside down in value and thats if you can sell it.

Yeah who knows what they were going to do. But I was in no real threat at the moment. Now, if they would have gotten into the garage it would have put it into a whole new ball park. Yes I have insurance on my bike. So they could have had it with out a problem. , the keys were even in the bike. lol. But since it played out the way it did, I didn't need to take matters into a different direction. the good thing for me is that the kids slept right through it and didn't have to go through a panic state of an attempted robbery.

Today, they are aware of it and not all freaked out. If they had woken up, i'm sure they would be home from school scared to go out side and what not.

For all of you who say just shoot them. Easier said than done. So i think alot of it is just keyboard cowboy talk, but don't get me wrong.... I had plenty of ideas on what i would have liked to do.

here are the main things that stopped me from stepping outside. 1)my kids. 2) I dind't know how many were out there I knew it wouldn't be just one guy. and yes, there was another. So I definatelly made the right move by staying in. Lets say I walkout and take care of the 1st guy and the other guy I didn't see walks up behind me.... I don't think he is going to want to see how much i'm getting back on my taxes..... ya know...

Well, whenever I hear a strange noise outside I have a weapon in my hand as I investigate.

Not a keyboard cowboy here, but you are far more nonchalant than me. If this happened to me I would have squeezed the trigger because I am far more paranoid that a person will come back to settle unfinished business. I am a firm believer that when someone has bad intentions that they will go to the extreme to finish their task at hand and will also do anything not to get caught as well. Like I said, in my book, you were VERY LUCKY that the event happened the way it did, but things can go wrong in an instant and I would have been proactive rather than waiting to see if the event would go a different way. There are a lot of twisted and up people in our communities because the legal system is so grey and they are capable of anything at any moment. Of course this happened to you and not me, but I have to draw the line and hope that next time you are in a similar situation, you stop them dead in their tracks.

I wouldn't be scared that they will be back ,but if you have a friend that owns guns or if you own a gun it wouldn't be a bad idea to have it close by,I wouln't shoot unless it gets real the Texas laws are full of Joe Horn got lucky they didnt throw his in prison.

If Joe can shoot and kill someone in broad daylight for breaking into a neighbor’s home while they are making a getaway after being warned by a 911 dispatcher to stay inside his home, I'm pretty confident I'll be fine in dropping a thief that has stepped onto my property at night

I agree. Bunch of nice guys here, which is why thief are becoming more brazen. One foot in my garage is going to be their last step then

Of course i'll be more aware of my surroundings in the next few months and what not. I know what exactly what they look like I will follow p to see what they get and how long they are in. Plus that'll give me an idea of how long before they get out. now that its day light and the neighbors are talking it seems like they hit several cars in the neighborhood.
