Rust in side of fuel tank

Got this gas tank that has been seating for over 2yrs and I wanted to see if you guys knew of anything that can help to clean all that rust in side this tank.

Its really bad and I dont know what to do other then replacing it.
have you guys had anything that works for cleaning heavy rust.?

Man, that looks rough. Even if there was a tried and true solution to cleaning it, my conscience would scream at me for just not getting another clean tank.

I would rather get a new tank if it was me.. this is just someone down the street from my house that I'm trying to help.

This is some heavy .. lol
1st I'll try some good cleaning stuff then go from there.

Motorcycles Unlimited has a chemical kit for removing rust and sealing the tank. I don't know if it will work on that tank though. Give 'em a call.

Muratic Acid/Water with ball bearings for cleaning it out. Wurth Rust Guard to seal it. Easiest thing to do.

You can use a battery charger and an anode. Then seal the tank with a sealer once you get the rust out.
