Exclamation love my little convex mirrors

Moto Houstonites:

Man, I love my little convex mirrors. They cost maybe three bucks.

Why you ask?

Well.

This afternoon I was riding the little sparkly yellow Ninja northbound on 99 near the Hwy 90 intersection near Sugar Land. I was tracking a pretty Harley ahead of me, and watching my 360. I tried to get into the right lane, to go east on 90, but no fracking way: a big truck cut me off. I mean totally cut me off.

But, I saw him in my little convex mirror, so I swerved, ....fast....and avoided a collision with a maybe 5 ton truck hauling gravel. I took my time, waited at the light, and creeped into the turn lane after several cars, and went on my merry way eastbound on 90.

Yeah, three buck convex mirrors: a great safety investment. I think the guy on the black Honda CBR I saw flying on Hwy 6, at maybe 60 mph in a 40 zone could have used them. I just don't get some of the high speeds, but I am a Viejo, and a survivor.

If I get the Triumph STR: first thing: some of those three buck convex mirrors.

Oh, and I saw two sport bikes commuting in on 59 this morning. These are brave fellows, but they both had extra LED lights on their bikes. The purple ones really impressed me. They received my customary prayer, as do all riders, all the time, when I see them.

Ride safe,

Lucydad

Yeah, I still need to get some. I've had a few close calls when people switch lanes after I turn my head and check.

They make them small enough to fit on motorcycle mirrors? I never knew.

Same ones for cars. You're probably thinking of the huge trucker mirrors.

Some lady almost killed me today. Making a left turn, there were 2 turn lanes and of course she drifted wide into the lane I was in. I grabbed a whole ton of brake and she never even noticed... why?? Because she was on the phone.

So I rode next to her in 1st gear the whole way to the next light on purpose to make sure she hopefully couldn't hear the person she was on the phone with. Then when we stopped at the next light I made the *hang up the phone* motion. She puts down her window and I tell her she almost hit me. She's like oh no I didn't. I tell her she made the turn wide but didn't even notice because she was yapping away on the phone in another world. She pulled up a few feet and put her window up and went back to her call. Stupid. . .

And yeah... I ride 59 everyday up to UofH. Pray for me.

She would've gotten a very dented door before I pulled off.

Wait, are we talking about actual replacement mirrors, or just the little ones that stick onto your stock rear views?

You can pick them up at Wal-Mart, Autozone, Pep Boys, etc. They come in various shapes and sizes.

I had a back up camera on my old bike too. Didn't have mirrors.

That's awesome, although honestly I think I'd catch myself watching the backup cam all the time.

Talking almost getting hit, some old guy pulled out from the Best Buy strip mall area in Clear Lake today onto I45 feeder road while staring me coming straight at him (30 mph), ended up having to split lanes to avoid getting nailed. I miss the loud pipe

Soooo..... anyone know how to hook up a back-up camera?
Were these kits, or peices you wired together, or what?

I happen to have a good backup camera, and nothing to use it for.

The mirrors I have are made by Bell and marketed for bicycles? I got them at Target. Yeah on the bike with the purple LEDs...about 6:20 am, inbound 59, I was in my bmw cage.

Time for another ride, it is a beauty of a day! Love the rear cams, they make a lot of sense to me on a bike. Someday we will see that kind of technology more standard on motorcycles, and much better mirrors.
