Had a couple of bikes rebuilt with salvage titles in the past. Horn, lights (headlight/ brake/ tail/ blinkers), tires, brakes, reciepts for parts put on bike, and vin# of bike/ bikes the parts came off if used...

Now, this inspector I went to was a real DH...he gave me the run around....I have heard other places/ inspectors are pretty laid back and just want to get the done, so they can get back to their coffee and penthouse mag..

So, do your research...find out which place has inspectors that won't hassle you...

Even after it's rebuilt and registered, the title will still say Salvage on it.

Any state inspection place can do the inspection, just make sure and ask for the "green sheet" when you get there (it's actually white but whatever)

There is also a form they want listing the parts used and who did the work.

There are additional forms that need to be completed to get the title. The inspection is also required. The DMV has the forms and they can be downloaded as well. I believe it's the VTR-61.

A bit of misinformation in this thread, again. Once the previously salvaged bike is re-titled, it will have a note that says something like "previously rebuilt salvage, TX".

Additionally, it is not expensive, as you do not have to pay taxes, just a $65 salvage rebuild fee.

Very straightforward.

UMMM! Actually the DMV told me today that i WILL have to pay taxes and the KBB of my bike is 8700, because they kbb it as if it were never wrecked for some reason...anyhow...i have to pay taxes on 8700 not just the 1000 i bought it for..so yes...it is expensive its gonna be like 650 - 800 bucks

stumbled upon this info a while ago.

http://www.txdmv.gov/vehicles/titles...tive_value.htm
to calc your tax youll have to pay.
and
http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinf...rms/14-128.pdf

if you buy a newer wrecked or salvaged bike you could save a couple bux depending on what the appraisal people charge. law states between 40-300 for motos. 100-300 for cars. not going to be worth the hassle for an older bike though.

I have done NUMEROUS salvage certificate bikes from different states. None required taxes to be paid. I even questioned this at the local tax office, and the comment was that the state feels that the taxes are covered in the repair procedure.

No taxes are owed, and there is a $65 salvage rebuild fee.
