To answer the OP, it is a legitimate charge. He will have to articulate it. It's not necessarily difficult. Can he shake you down, your phone and recording equipment? Hard to say with certainty, despite the dozens of lawyers chiming in on this thread, but as to whether you have a federal civil rights violation case, I'd be rather skeptical. He may simply state he was looking pursuant to a felony fleeing investigation, was concerned if he allowed it to continue to roll that it would destroy evidence by overwriting data, so he pulled it.

If the automatic assumption here is that every cop is incompetent and stupid and a jackass, and the thing to do is run from the cops, does anyone REALLY think it's unfair that cops focus on you a little more? Can't have your cake and eat it too, even though I personally know none of you guys ever break a single law ever.

hmmm.... that's what I thought

Ahem...just like bikers have to deal with having a well deserved reputation for being antisocial, anti-authority reckless hooligans because of a very small number of bad apples, cops have to deal with having a well deserved rep for being ignorant power-abusing, donut munching thugs ...because of a very small number of bad apples...

The fact that the "small number" of them seems to be growing (in BOTH camps i might add) seems to only add to the reputation.

Is it POSSIBLE this cop was acting completely on the up-and-up? Sure. Since Rezno isn't currently a guest of the county though, I'm going to say that the PROBABILITY of the legitimacy of the cops actions are pretty damned low.

This board will be the first place someone will get ripped open for doing something truly stupid for which they fully deserve the punishment. I have yet to see you accept that cops DO up from time to time.

This. Cause and effect? I'm thinking most likely.

Either way. Entertaining thread...

how many stories do you hear like this from people on cruisers vs. sportbikers? I'd be willing to bet the numbers are very disproportional.

Since my Scala Headset doesn't get AM radio I listen to npr on my ride in. One day they were talking about some legislation that allows law enforcement officials to scan our phone and other media devices. It was pushed through to help fight terrorism. I don't rember what it was called though.

Running on an HD? ROFL! I can see the cop letting you go because he was laughing too hard since you even attempted it.

Nah - HD riders used to get harassed for noise issues. That problem has been corrected though, so we're good.

If you're talking about the Patriot Act, I do not think this is the case here. Unless Renzo is known to authorities to smuggle missiles

Traffic Monitoring System Raises Privacy Concerns

Houston's AWAM traffic program is right now in its infancy, with approximately 50 intersections, mostly near the Galleria, being monitored. But TXDOT and TranStar plan to roll out more and more Bluetooth-monitored addresses in the coming months.
