FYI - Optimal Bodywork

The latest kits from Optimal have been made at a different factory in China. When I got my new set the other day it looked like the upper and tail sections were older pieces and the lower and fender were from the new factory. The lower seemed good but the fender was noticeably of lower quality and finish than before. Everything still mounted up perfectly and that makes them well worth it, no matter what, IMO.

We spoke with Optimal and they confirmed that they were dealing with a different factory and they will be going back to their old factory, in China, however their next shipment will mark an increase in price. It looks like the sets are going to be around $445.00 to the door now, through 212 Decals.

That puts them in the neighborhood of Hotbodies. I still think they are worth it but price increases suck. :(

Anyway, if you're on the fence about buying bodywork, you should probably check with 212decals.com while they are less than $400 to the door.

having painted hundreds of motorcycle bodywork of all different kinds/brands. optimal is most definitely the best bang for the buck. with the price increase, i still believe it's worth buying. they are no sharkskinz by any means, but then again they aren't $800+ either.

sucks to pay $50 odd something more, but i've seen the difference between the new factory and old factory stuff, and it's definitely worth paying the upped price for the original factory stuff.

How do they compare to Hot Bodies?

I have attack stuff right now but it sure is pricey.

We had Hotbodies on the 250 and it was good but I've seen some ill fitting stuff on other bikes. I think it's real hit or miss with them.

This is how I'd rank them based on my experience with them all (except sharkskinz but I have seen them)

1. Sharkskinz $800
2. Attack $650 ish
3. Optimal $370
4. Armour Bodies $600
5. Hotbodies $500?

I've only used HotBodies and Attack. The Attack stuff is nice, but it's really pricey. The HotBodies stuff I had was all but junk.

I'm gonna agree with this statement. Maybe about 5 years ago hotbodies had decent stuff, but since then everything has literally been china ebay stuff with a US brand name.

i'd rank it like this...

1. sharkskinz
2. attack performance
3. armour bodies
4. optimal racing
5. factory bodyworks inc
6. hotbodies
7. all the ebay $300 moto jumbo mumbo name specials

there's a good variety right there already, and for anybody thinkin about buying those cheap ebay specials, i would highly suggest spending a little more money for optimal racing products. a lot of those cheap ebay stuff are poorly constructed usually with a think layer of matte fiberglass and a boatload of gelcoat (which usually comes shipped with cracks in the fiberglass itself and even more so in the gel coating). Because of the massive amounts of gelcoat it does NOT offer great flexibility, which in turn usually results in your body work literally exploding upon impact (even slow speed crashes) where the companies that offer a better quality product generally constructed of fiberglass CLOTH material would still be repairable after an identical crash.

so in the end, if you really wanna save money, stay away from the too cheap to be true stuff. if i come across these very same companies lowering their quality, i'll be sure to post up and give an updated review of the product.

I have Optimals on my track-toy.

Overall the fitment was pretty good. It was my first time installing track body work, and only a tiny bit of dremeling was needed.

The belly pan didn't want to fit over my Aftermarket exhaust. Not a big deal, a couplt of deremel cuts and i was good to go.

Optimal, is a tiny-bit on the brittle side. but for the price, i wont complain..

Question Optimal for Aprilia?

Does anyone know if Optimal race fairings are available for 2004-08 Aprilia RSV-R. I searched online, but could not determine if they are available.
