Fastline Feb. 11th

I REALLY want to go to this track day. However, I drive a compact car without a hitch. Anyone else going from the SE side have some room? It would be my first track day. Obviously, I have the gas and lunch for the day. Also, I have 2600 miles on my tires, noticeable flat spot in the rear but still a lot of tread. Would I need to replace the rear for the TD?

Semi fresh tires are always good to have at the track. The bike will turn in better on tires that still have some roundness to them. I think that most track day organizations lke you to have like 50% tread left on your tires. Your tires are the only thing between you and the pavement. Use your best judgement. If that fails you. There will be a tire vendor at the track. Enjoy and kiss all your extra money goodbye. It will all go to the track pipe now.

Understood LOL. Will I be dragging knee on the first TD? I want to say my tires are good for the first TD, but if I have to I guess I'll buy one there. Its just money right?

don't worry about dragging your knee, that is a result not a goal...if it happens, it happens... if you have concerns about the tire, get a new one...when you take your bike to tech inspection and it has flat spots you are likely to have to get a new one if you want to ride that day...

If you go out worrying about dragging a knee on your first track day, you're likely going to run into some big problems. Learn the track, get your lines decent, get your body in the right place and get some speed. Do all that and your knee will be on the deck a lot.

You COULD do the day with a little bit of a flat spot in the center, as long as there's still life left. If you're hitting or even close to hitting the wear indicators your probably going to be asked to get a new rear tire. Might as well save the guess work and get a new one.

If I was going that day, I'd def help ya out man. But I'm not going to be able to make that one. Maybe next time.

And they ^ have said it best.
Don't worry about dragging knee first day. And if you are worried about the tire, replace it althought I have 3500 and 4 td's on my 016's still riding them! Lol.

I wouldn't worry about the tire, I dought you'll find the line or be in the correct lvl to need a fresh tire, have fun and welcome to the darkside.

Please wait a few laps until the tire at least has a little heat, no telling what the weather will be like.

I commute so I always have a squared off tire. Hasn't bothered me yet, as long as there's plenty of tread.

Just depends on how you react to speed.

I took a friend to his first TD at MSRH last year and he was riding with a very squared off tire. He did fine in Novice but is upgrading his tires for his next day.

You will notice an enormous difference when you do get the new rubber.

not sure how strict they are going to be when you take your bike to tech inspection, but in the new 2012 fastline handbook, the rules state that no tires with flat spots will be allowed. you might want to PM Tim and get some clarification on that.

Absolutely yes, if it's that noticeable.

If you don't have confidence in your tires, you will not be concentrated on learning the track, the lines, and what your instructors are saying.

It's the only two pieces of rubber keeping you from eating pavement at high speeds...

Yeah man, jus tpost a picture.
As far as dragging knee, that will not happen, you will spend most of the day learning the track line and getting comfortable, like Aaron said.
If you drag knee on the first TD chances are you dragged more than that, and we don't want that happening.

I've got a belt sander you can use if you dont get a knee down and are having trouble holding the tears back.
