BTW, re-read the rules, there is nothing there that says you cant talk about breaking the law.

If the vin is in fact clean, then I don't understand why your solution is swapping frames, and not a bonded title. Bonded title is what people typically do with vehicles with "lost titles." Swapping frames is something people do with stolen bikes, and I'm not accusing you of anything... "just saying"

Sounds to me like you just learned a $2000 lesson.

Seriously dude, a 20 year old 600 with no title? If you just want to throw money away, I could use some.

Bike with no title usually means the person that sold it to you is not on the title.. Hence the situation that they can not get a replacement title.... Getting a new title in Texas is real easy now and days. People just don't know the rule or don't want to go thru the trouble.

Ive done this in San Antonio Texas at the regional title office that prints title in office no waiting for the mail or mailing to the wrong address..

If you can find the original owner all they need is a driver license and a trip to a Regional title office if they have one in Houston I am pretty sure they do... If they don't want to go with you they have a Affidavit (power of attorney) that they can sign for you giving you permission to pick up the title and you only need a copy of there DL...

Yes with proper paper work a complete stranger can go get a copy of the title.( Temp. Power Of Attorney).. Go to the office I think the fee is $5.45 for a replacement title...

Take it to the original owner get the new title signed and do your regular title transfer.. Oh and don't forget that title transfers require an Affidavit now so get that signed to...

Sorry if this was confusing in anyway but here's a link that should help you with replacing your title...

Bonded title is a PITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you know you bought a totally clean bike and get a bonded title the state will treat it like it's questionable for 3 years before yo get a "free and clear" title.
I did it once - won't ever do it again. And every office you go to will treat it differently.

How exactly do they "treat it like it's questionable?" They issue you a standard blue title with the word "bonded" in the top corner. You get your plates just the same, you get your registration just the same. you can still get your registration sticker at any kroger. What exactly is "questionable" about it? In three years you go back and get another blue title, exactly the same as the bonded title you were issued, just without the word "bonded" on it...
