no, i haven't. i rarely drive the lexus (once a week maybe) so i am still saving money on gas and the amount of maintenance performed on the lexus. so both vehicles combined I'm averaging about $360/month to cover both operating costs.

Quite a brisk ride in this morning! I really need to get winter gloves. Otherwise, layering up top and wearing thermal under the jeans helps with the rest of the body. Wasn't too bad of a ride home.

It would be nice to get that many miles out of car tires.

Point is, if you already have the bike and the car, then the bulk of your overall cost is in the overhead (or fixed cost), which is there regardless which vehicle you take. Yes, the variable cost might be slightly lower riding the bike, but not that much for most folks.

Most bikes require premium gas, whereas my cars drinks regular unleaded. That effectively lowers my bike mpg advantage by about 20%. That's why I like the SV1000S. It takes regular.

But... whatever your reasoning, it's all good. I do it mostly because to and from work is usually about the only times I get to play with my bikes. Weekends belong to family. I could care less about cost saving. If I'm gonna ride, I gotta be comfortable. That's why I have wayyy to much gear for all different weather conditions.

the cycle gear balacava is working well. It is thicker than the marino woll one I had (lost) form Aerostitch.

And the Adademy ski gloves, they work fine.

I could not take the gulf freeway traffic again.

ski pants+ski gloves+balacava+scarf+sweater with liner added to regular gear

I was warm.

I use it more than that.....anything below 55 deg..or so.

Like a condom or a sidearm. Better to have it and not need it.....
OH, and some of us ride a bit farther than the city limits.....

i have factored all maintenance in my operating cost per month total. that does include gas and tires. I do all the basic maint myself. riding doesn't have to cost a fortune. not all of us need to daily ride an ape....

I see where you are coming from. for me though, saving $80 to $100 a month just by riding the bike primarily (which i prefer to commute on anyway) is justification enough. I keep the car around for when i have my son on the weekends... lol

WTF happened on 45 coming from Spring into downtown? It took me 3x longer to get to work even after I made evasive actions and jumped on the HOV.

Wreck on the HOV this morning on both north fwy and gulf fwy. I work in champions, so I jumped off at 2920 when I heard that. Took back roads to work.
