I saw more yesterday than today. Today was brisk. Could've done with another layer.

That $10 neck guard at Cycle Gear was money well spent.

You get the right cold weather gear and you can ride in anything. Except snow covered roads and ice. That would be where I draw the line. I think if I lived up north I would have a dedicated winter bike with studs in the wheels or something. I would hate to miss all that riding in the winter.

If you wanna go ice racing, yes. Otherwise, you'd better off with regular street or dual sport tires. Or better yet, put your bike in storage like every body else.

I still haven't forgotten just how miserably cold it gets up north. I've ridden in February in Buffalo, NY and it is no picnic. The roads might look clear, but there are always patches of black ice lurking around ready to you. I hit one once on a hwy on ramp, front wheel went over fine, but my rear started fishtailing. You wouldn't think a guy could break a sweat in -20F, but I did. I rode up to Buffalo in the Fall and stay on my bike through half the winter. Had to buy a car and quit riding like everybody else.

Yep. I rode some in the winter, but my and legs would be killing me. NOT a relaxing ride. I grew up riding my MX bike in a foot of snow. That was fun. Icy pavement is not.

The freeze out long johns/face mask at Cycle Gear are fantastic. Other than those add-ons, layering up under my textile works just fine.

As it was correctly pointed out, ambient temps around here don't really get that low. It's the moisture in the air that sucks all the heat from your. It's like the difference between getting hit with cold air or cold water a the same temp. Up north, RH is next to 0% in the winter. Not so in Houston.

The key here is to make sure you have a good wind breaker. Whole not of layering under your jeans and sweater aren't gonna do much good if the upper layer just let the damp air filter right thru. Get a good thick windbreaker and you'll be a lot better off.

Rode in today & yesterday , nice brisk morning ride.
I tried my new winter gloves from cycle gear , but in truth , they are design for colder weather than what we are now getting.
Everyone have a great weekend , it should be nice riding weather for sure during the day.

Don't bother with insulated "winter" gloves till morning temp gets below 50F. Even then, pack a pair of regular uninsulated glove for the afternoon ride home.

For some reason, the ride home seemed colder than the ride in.
