Leather facemask, put it on, helmet on then jacket over the lower portion. Works great.

Oh cool. Didn't realize there was specific gear for bikes(or snowmobiles?) for that.

You can also wander the Academy sports and outdoors for cold weather gear. Lots of similar neck/face cover.

REMCycle: This morning for instance i wore a scarf to keep the wind off my chin/neck (works really well). Sometimes I wear a balaclava. I also have a shemagh and I wrap it around my head like a taliban but it doesnt work so well with a helmet.

I found a bandanna helped considerably. Cowboy style. My breath would warm my face and wouldn't fog up my visor.

Anyone try that "freeze out" liner stuff sold at cycle gear? I am going to try that while it is still cheap. Then later this year will get an electric liner.

Im good down to about 50 with nothing extraordinary.

The biggest thing is getting good gloves.

It was warmer this morning than a Texas movie theater in the summer where the chicks are still wearing their shorts and tank tops. There are some serious wusses here. Below 45F and above ~33F your skin may get uncomfortable and red, but you won't be doing any actual damage. At ~32 and below the wind from riding can give you permanent damage, then you need better gear. It wasn't cold this morning. I'm assuming the people complaining have just never felt their skin be cool.

Although your skin is fine you can get hypothermia at this morning's temp'. The ER up north always got people with hypothermia when the weather warmed above 60F 'cause all of those 's would ride around in their T-shirts and jeans cause it was such beautiful weather. So, I guess you have crazies all around.

+1. I love the winter riding season. Heck, yrs ago in Buffalo, NY I rode down to 20F, as long as the roads were clear. Here in Houston, I limit myself to above 30deg if it has been below that the whole night before, mostly so I don't hit icy spots on highway overpasses. A nice leather jacket and overpants block out most of the cold. No need for longjohns. Just what I usually wear in the winter months, which is a sweater or wool vest over long sleeve shirt and slacks. The overpants I bought last season came with an insulated liner, which I tried once in low 30's F. Wasn't necessary at all, so I packed it away and never used it again.

I do think the type of bike makes a difference though. If you are riding a cruiser with no screen and your feet into the wind, you'll have more problem in the winter months. I had a Suzuki S83 and it wasn't exactly comfortable in the winter. The air-cooled carb'ed engine didn't appreciate the cold either. Now I am very well protected in the Concours 14 cockpit.

FTFY....

Back in 2010 when we had the snow I rode home from huntsville in 30 degree weather without gloves. Made it all the way to 1960&45 and stopped at a gas station and bought some gloves.
