If thats the case ill ride past it n kick it. Juuuust kidding.
Ill avoid it like a plague.

At track, the instructor said if its 1 serving, roll over it. 2 servings, swerve. This doesn't pertain to a hard cylindrical bucket tho, itll wipe us motorcyclist out.
o yea, the pail was on left 2 lanes, rolling around.

I rode in to work today for the first time in traffic. Not too bad ... was nice though just put the ear buds in and dogged all the cages. Was nice ... made it to work in record time . So nice to be able to get around cars I can normally get around cause they are jamming the lanes up.

I rode in. Lane splitted but it was at a series of lights and mad construction. (all the cars were at a stand still).

Rode in yesterday. Passenger seat flew off bc I probably didnt put it back correctly. Went back and got it though.

There was a truck with a flat tire just north of 610. Glad I went past it at 6:30, I'm sure that would have stopped it up by 7:00.

Posting for the noobs. Commuting via bike is gonna over the winter will make some balk. The only thing that will keep me off the bike is ice, and I haven't spent a fortune in cold weather gear.

The best piece of gear you can buy is a one-piece rain suit. Wind protection is much more important than cold protection. Block the wind, and fewer base layers are needed.

The second thing you need is a good pair of gloves. The best pair of cold weather armored riding gloves on the market are Cortech Scarabs, but you will need glove liners in temps below 50. I use Xtreem cold weather gloves ($40 at Academy), and I don't need liners until temps drop below 40. They are not armored, but they're thin. I'm willing to trade protection for dexterity & warmth.

A balaclava: keep the wind off your neck. I have a neoprene half mask (from Cycle Gear) that tucks into my jacket.

Boots: Waterproof boots also keep wind (and cold) out, but really all you need is an ankle-high boot without laces.

My gear for riding down to about 30 degrees:

One-piece rain suit

Xtreem gloves. They offer the protection of 2" thick ski gloves but are no thicker than most leather work gloves.

Teknic Sprint (textile) jacket with full sleeve quilted liner.

Balaclava

Magnum (lace-up) water-resistant boots

I wear no extra base/insulation layers on my legs.

My commute is 22 miles one way, and I ride quite comfortably without feeling encumbered in temps in the 30's, even if it's raining. Heated grips and wind deflectors are a bonus, but aren't necessary.

My boots aren't nearly as water resistant as I'd like them to be.

yeah, I wore the one piece Tour Master rain suit and the Icon Pursuit rain boots this morning, still ended up soaked... but after sitting in traffic for nearly two hours, I'm not nearly as wet as I could've been. Luckily I planned for it and brought dry work clothes expecting to be wet. Hopefully we'll get nice weather this afternoon/evening to make up for this morning.

Never thought of that. Now just need a jacket or maybe fix up a poncho to go over my jacket.

Rode in to work this morning...

lol, a little chilly. Wore the motohouston sweatshirt/hoodie underneath my armored jacked and still a little chilly.

I was wearing my tourmaster overpants and felt warm, no problem there.

nice pleasant ride, actually.

When it starts to get cold it's not about layers as much as wind protection. If your jacket doesn't provide sufficient wind protection a hoodie won't do much to help you.

oh ok... Guess I should drop by Academy or Walmart and grab a one-piece rain suit for wind protection.

probably should go ahead and get a decent pair of winter gloves as well.
