because of "nice" people like this, that drink and ride, and have a "couple" of friends that party with them, all motorcycle riders specially sport motorcycles have this fame.. we are wreckless, uncorteous, stupid, immature, chance takers.

this is show of plain stupidity, risking your life just for the of a trill... drunk riding a busa? why not jump out of an airplane with no parachute?

I can't help but wonder a 450lb motorcycle at 150+mph, hitting a car ...

When I first saw the story on Fox 26 yesterday, I felt sorry for the guy, but the longer I think about what he did the angrier I get.

I love my son and daughter more than anything, but if they had done this, I don't think I could ever speak to them again.

I think he understands more than anyone else how stupid he was for making poor choices. He wouldn't have gone on the news otherwise.

I know he understands that, but I also think he went on the news because he wants help. They're taking away his wheelchair and his in home hospital bed. He's looking for more charity. Let his family fill his needs

They didn't say anything about charity. Not asking for a dime, just giving his story in hopes others will learn from his mistake. Seems like you want to see more than what there is to the story.

He can re-apply this year but now that Medicaid isn't footing the bill, the medical equipment company is demanding he give his wheelchair and hospital bed back.
He was in Ben Taub for 2 months. They put you in Taub when the tax payer has to foot the bill. Herman is the trauma center.

We ALL do dumb things. I agree that what he did was entirely stupid. I see Harley bar hoppers do the same dumb thing all the time too. But not a single one of you are perfect. Sometimes it takes a life changing thing in someone's life to make things sink in. We probably all go at high rates of speed from time to time. Weither it be in the back roads on on the highways. We've all seen people get killed from it on the news or maybe you have even lost someone close to you but the fact remains, we all make the same mistakes. Some of us just haven't crashed and may never crash. If you don't have health insurance and disability, I don't suggest that you ever hop on a motorcycle. If you do, you could lose everything. Cashtown is right about the cost of an accident. My ICU bills were $9,000/day. I was in there for almost 2 months. The first 2 weeks of my accident cost $687,000. The remaining weeks in ICU were another $600,000+. My responsibility after my deductables and copays were 20% of that. I then had 4 more months in the hospital and rehab that aren't even in those amounts. A lot of nice people from here and my personal friends raised some money to help pay for some things but it didn't go far at all. It doesn't mean I wasn't extremely greatful but it really didn't help out that much. Now since my accident nearly 7 years ago, I typically spend $30-40K a year in treatments and surgeries and that goes towards my income tax deductions. Yes, its that much with what some would call great medical insurance! It's more than most people make in a year on here I'm sure. So when you toss that leg over your bike, think about that long and hard. Can you afford it?

pretty much this. lost family, house, job, still not working (article says he wants to join the workforce), forever in huge debt (3months in a hosptial isnt cheap, someone has to foot the bill).

we're all lucky his stupid mistake didnt wipe out one of our moms, dads, siblings or other family or friends. i dislike folks saying "its ok we all make mistakes", but not all mistakes can end up killing or seriously injuring others.

"aww i burnt the toast" isnt on the same level of "aww i got drunk and lost control of a few hundred pound bike going 190mph"

I wanna laugh when people make statements like " drunk on a busa?". That's just stupid. Its not like a 600 wont get you into trouble just as quickly. As a matter of fact I had many more close calls on 600's than I have on the Busa.

Had he been riding a 600 I would have put that in the title. I've not done a study, but I'll bet Busas and Harleys are preferred by bar hopping riders.
