Looking for a good 10W-40 semi-syn

Anyone know of a good 10W-40 Semi-syn motorcycle specific oil that can be purchsed easily? I wanted Castrol Actevo X-tra, but I can't. It's going in an old Yamaha, and didn't want to go full-syn, so thought I'd give some semi-syn a go around. Was hoping to find it at a wal-mart, AUtozone, etc. Thanks.

Wrong forum for this question.... If old vegetable oil was used and people posted it worked in bikes then theirs people that would use it because it's cheap.....

Motul 5100 for a semi Syn. Amsoil for full.

If you send your old oil for analysis you will see that most if not all synthetic oils in most applications will last well over the recommended mileage. Amsoil is oil, just like any other oil, the only difference is the people who sell it will say anything to get you to use it. My 2 cents...

oh and amsoil doesnt make any syn blends, only full synthetics.

I've only seen that one douche Tim Vispond who was a member on here fit what your talking about as far as sales go. I recommend it because of the years of use i've had with it on. This and motul are the only things that go in my bikes.

To me, it's one of the few products out there that can sell itself.

The Amsoil sales reps I've met are like brainwashed zombies spitting out memorized responses while having no real opinion of their own.. The people selling it are the reason I just don't use it.

I agree it's good oil, but I just go with what's cheap as I've never noticed a performance difference between synthetic oils, and blackstone labs shows the same result for just about all the oils I've used

I have a 05 R6 that has never had any other oil besides Silkolene semi-synth in it. I can purchase it easily enough in Dallas that I would think you could too in Houston.

I use the 20w-50

?? Castrol Actevo X-tra isn't a full syn oil. It is a syn blend and reasonably priced, available at Cycle Gear for ~$7 a quart. Looks like you go full circle back to your preferred oil.

Actevo semi is an Ok oil, by no means a great oil. In fact all semisynthetics are a waste of money and nothing more. 70% conventional oil and 30% "synthetic"

Since the lawsuit between Castrol and Mobil there are only a couple real synthetic oils on the market (pretty much whatever is over $15 a quart) and the rest are Group III mineral oils (in other words highly refined regular oils with additives that meet synthetic qualities in over freezing temps) one should understand that a semi synthetic is 70% regular oil and 30% highly purified regular oil = waste of money.

So if you want a truly semi synthetic you might as well get a Rotella syn 5w40 and Rotella regular 15w40 and mix them equally (this comes after my conversation with Shell who suggested they mix perfectly because both start with a 40 base oil with additives. The group II can reach 15w40 where the group iii reached 5w40). Rotella syn 5w40 is a great motorcycle oil for its price, even that is 92% group III and 8% truly syn.

Oh and another thing, unless you have an air cooled engine or constantly revving around the red line (like track days), you probably have nothing to gain from synthetics assuming you ride and change your oil regularly.
