Lost Key

Here's my "I'm an idiot" thread. I've lost the key to my '07 Ninja... I only had one, and both times I went to make copies the locksmith was out of blanks. Now I have no key and can't ride my bike.

I've researched online and apparently I can pull a code off of the bike and get the key made. Does anyone have experience with getting a key made off of the code? Do you know any reputable dealerships that will do that? I have the title in hand and can prove ownership so that shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks,

Josh

3 quick pieces of advise:

1) Go to your nearest Kawasaki dealer and buy a few black to have the locksmith cut the key;

2) You can't get the key code off the bike anywhere, title or no title it doesn't matter. They don't make it that easy for obvious reasons.

3) If you know what dealership originally sold the bike, they sometimes keep that information with the original paperwork.

PM japawhat.. he's a mobile locksmith that does quality work at exceptional cost for MH members...

The last one I helped with had the keycode, but you have to dismantle the igniton to find it.

+1 ^

I haven't had first hand experience in this field (thank I was smart enough to have a 2nd key made) but from reading other threads, Japawhat has helped many members here on MH, I would start with sending him a PM.

And when you do get your key made, get sum blanks and have a spare or 2 made. I purchased 2 blanks on eBay, and had ACE Hardware cut them for me. ACE can even copy a key that has been chipped

Fill the keyslot up with a mixture of sand and super glue.
Quickly jam a stick into it so when it hardens you have something to turn.
Viola ! ! ! ! INSTANT KEY

The bike is now worthless. Sell it to me for 5 bucks and I'll even pick up at no extra charge. Please make sure you signed the title and placed it under the seat. Thanks.

I wish I would've seen this earlier. I ended up calling a Mancuso and they recommended a mobile locksmith. He had two keys made using the lock on the bike in about 20 minutes...

It won't happen again, now that I have a spare made... If I need a locksmith for anything else I know who I'll be calling, lol.

WOW. You can get it towed home for $75.
My friend has an 09 or 10 R6 that someone tried to steal by hot-wiring it. They got it started but it was found less that 100 yards away. Since they didn't have a key in the ignition it kills the second you shift into gear.
