Go Pro Lens mod

For those of you video/photo gurus, you can mod your Go Pro camera to get rid of the fish eye effect. There are two options:

You can get the Sunex dsl355a-650-f2.8 lens:
http://www.readymaderc.com/store/ind...roducts_id=439

$50

This lens, get rid of all if not most of the fisheye effect giving you a realistic point of view and rectilinear images/video. Downside is it will protrude outside the camera housing and will not fit in the weatherproof casing unless you remove the protective covering.

Or you can get Rage Cam 2.8 lens and more:
www.ragecams.com

The rage cam does have a slight fisheye/distortion but gets rid of most and and the key is it still fits inside of the housing with slight mods.

$75

Thanks for posting this up. This is one thing I have disliked about the GoPro unit (fish eye effect). Per their website, the 2.8 lens will fit inside the GoPro case.

That does a good job of normalizing the video.

c'mon!!!! That's the main idea of the GoPro!! The wide-angle lens is what makes the camera unique!!!

I will get it just for that. If I don't want the "fish eye" effect use a regular camera.

A regular camera doesnt have the mounting options and bombproof ability of a gopro though.

I do not like the fisheye

Unique or not, there is nothing wrong with having an option for a great camera.

Check this new camera:

http://replayxd.com/replay-xd1080-camera/

The wide-angle is only 135 versus the 170 of the GoPro and not as bulky as the GoPro.

i just got the replay for xmas. i definitely like the interface, weight, and size over the go pro. I plan on using it for my helmet cam and also on the rear seat. One drawback I see is that there is no tough housing for the replay like the go pro - so if it's dropped it will likely sustain some damage.

I believe the lens mods mentioned above simply narrows the FOV to eliminate the fish eye effect. Regardless, the original footage can be edited to minimize the distortion.

Nice. It is one of those things you have to decide on. Do you like the broader range of view or not. On some video I like the fisheye effect on others not so much. I do like that camera though and if I am going to buy one I think I would go with this one.

The gopro hero 2 has a mode to remove fish eye. I think its 90 127 and 170 but don't quote me on that. But I know there is a narrow option.

Nice!!

I have a gopro and I'm not fond of the wide angle view. If I dont get the newest unit for X-mas, I may go this route. Thanks again for posting

Here's the review of the new Replay XD1080:

http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...eplay-xd-1080/

I like more the form and size than the GoPro HD Hero with the GoPro 2 out there, perhaps the original GoPro HD will go cheaper?

I just bought a Contour Roam HD for 89 shipped from amazon, but I haven't tried it yet, I hope it takes good video, but I'm already sold on how small it is, specially the frontal area, compared to the bulty gopro.

I think it has the same wide angle as the gopro, but I don't complain much about it, I know what to expect since I had a gopro before.

I have the contour hd and really like it. The pic is as clear as any gopro and the suction cup is very stable. I wish it had the gopro housing tho. I remember snorkeling with the gopro but if I did that with the contour I'd be out $200. I know it has a case but then it makes it too bulky.
