Makes you wonder if that wasn't a coincidence. Otherwise how would the number come up? How do they decide to offer $900k over 500? 600? 700? - almost like they offered to get her out of her hole but let's not treat this like a lottery win - and she went for the whole hog and she ended up with the bowl of dog poo behind door #2.

That's exactly what I'm assuming was the case - that they offered essentially whatever it was to set her "even" and rounded up to an even number, which was pretty generous it seems, based on the evidence that we've been able to see.

I think the question is being overlooked: So what if the rider thought the bike had ABS when it didn't, how did that cause his crash?

The rear tire locked up causing him to lose control. Who knows if ABS would have saved him from colliding with the traffic that had stopped in front of him.

um, wut? Please reread. Unless you're suggesting that's what you think the salesman said, and the rider mistook abs for ABS???

Are you kidding me? What HD did was no different than what almost every company in the industry does as well as every automotive company. Its pretty damned normal really. Has NOTHING to do with saving money at anyone's expense or being unconcerned about safety. The manual is crystal clear on the topic as well - stating very obviously that the ABS light comes on EVERY TIME YOU START THE BIKE IF ABS IS INSTALLED. If not, no light. Simple as that.

If you're dumb enough to buy a $20K touring bike and not even glance at the manual over nearly a year and a half of ownership, and not once notice the ABS light has never come on, you're a moron.

Yeah i know - that in itself was amazing. Guess I shouldn't be too surprised that she didn't know about the dome light.

These days it doesn't matter what is 'right'. His lawyer only needs to convince a jury of his peers (aka morons) that HD was at fault and he wins millions.
