If the cager's had half a brain and paid even a minimal amount of attention, it would not be a bad thing. It helps traffic move along, and in some ways keeps riders safer. Stop and go traffic is deadly for a bike. What would be a minor bumper thumper and a couple days in the body shop for a car can put a rider in the morgue.

Not to draw this out and get in a match but was wondering why you believe its not a bad idea to ride between multiple lanes of cars at a higher speed?

And I agree with you somewhat on the cagers paying attention but argue the point thats its illegal here and goes against alot of things were are accustomed to. People here are not use to vehicles riding between two lanes on a dotted line that lawfully splits and divides lanes to travel down. If anything, hit the shoulder and ride, not between two cars that are forced on narrower lanes to begin with due to the city trying to expand roads and add lanes

And want to add that the van in the video could have been responding to a situation on the other side of it and reacted safely to avoid an accident and got in another due to a rider lane splitting and driving where he shouldn't have.

you realize it's done ALL over the world and in CA, right?

you don't need to be doing 100mph in standstill traffic, but going 10-15 over traffic is no biggie.

and nobody says you HAVE to do it.

riding the shoulder is BS.

just cuz people are not used to it doesn't mean that they can't become used to it.

Of course doing 20+mph between cars already traveling at a certain speed is dangerous if there isn't that much space, and I find completely unnecessary.

On the other hand doing 5mph more between cars that are already traveling much slower than the speed limit due to traffic congestion is more appropriate.

And this is understandable but what was in the video and the action of 90% of people that lane split, this is not the case. It usually turns into high speed between cars at stopped traffic and rolling traffic at that. Not saying this is everybody butttt enough to validate the reason for NOT passing the law.

I do realize this and thats why there are millions of videos of this exact thing, just cause the world does it doesnt mean it needs to be the way here and that its safe. Germany has the autobahn, should that mean we should drive 120mph + here in the states legally?

90%, where'd you get that #, and it ain't everybody but it's damm close........lol

according to you.

just like the helmet arguement, just cuz the law passes doesn;t mean you gotta do it.

when in the tx house, they attatched "having taken MSF", or maybe wearing a helmet or something that made it get shot down.

for millions of vids of crashes there's a bazillion times more where it's done everyday w/o incident.

ultimatly that wreck was the bikers fault.

in Cali, u can't split if the traffic flow is more than 20mph.
say u split at 25mph and accident happens, nobody is pay for nothing but urself. Thaz Cali's law.

I split lanes here sometimes, if the traffic gets really bad due to accident or what not. In that case, cop would not mind me doing it I am sure.
