We currently have both a 1200 bandit and an FZ1 (pre-owned) if you want to ride them to get a feel for the fairings....

Gag - i'll pass.

Nothing against those who like them, but dual sports make me wanna hurl. Besides, haven't seen one yet I can manage to get on without a ladder - I'm a little, um, inseam challenged.

GSX650f, ninja 650, fz6, Versys, V-Strom 650, SV650

All of these have good engines, good fuel economy, and at least a half-fairing. For commuting I'd think anything over 650 would land outside the intersection of performance and fuel economy.

I bought the first FZ-1 sold in Houston.
I still have it and I still love it. It's the best bike I've ever owned (been riding since '81).
That said, I'm thinking of selling because I have the sweats for a Duc Streetfighter. Make you a good deal, lol. Seriously PM me, I will give you the details of why it would be a good deal.

Any comments from the peanut gallery on the FZ6 and/or FZ1 and why I should choose one over the other?
My 06 FZ6 has been a great commuter. Get the 3" taller windshield, it is so much better than the stock one. 80787 miles on it as of today.

Either FZ1 or older Z1000. If I was looking for new then the new Ninja 1000.

If you are over 210 lbs don't go with the 600. Your behemoth has much more torque at commuting speeds and you will be sorely disappointed with a 600 standard. Look at the FZ1.

The GenI ('01- '05) FZ1 has greater range due to a larger tank while the GenII ('06 - present) is superior in almost every other way. Either one could be soncsidered the "Best All Around" ever made. They do everything well.

There are some new bikes out that give the FZ1 a run for the money. The problem is they are so new you can't come close to the value of any used FZ1.
