Wasnt really referring to u. Just quoted... I agree to follow the manual but I don't agree to follow the on board indicator on some vehicles. Call it what you want, they don't tell you anything other than for the people that don't keep up with their vehicle as a "idiot light"

Read your book and change every xx miles or xx months - whichever comes first.

I probably don't change my oil often enough for as much as I ride, but every month seems excessive. Especially since I mostly commute.

In my car I take it in when the light comes on (maintenance covered by Toyota).

Yes I strongly disagree with following it! For most vehicles it measures nothing but miles and goes way to long, but as I said people who argue oil neglect their vehicles so its pointless to argue this....it's a fact.

so then why not put the maint. minders on at say 3500mi

mine comes on w/ 20% left to go, then 10% then starts counting down ever number, then goes into the neg. #'s

and its blatently obvious vs a tiny little obscure light, its in the info part of the dash that tells me mpg, air press. , door ajar.....

and many people have had their oils sent off and eval. and alls good

heck i think amsoil has like a 25k mi oil.....Signature Series 100% Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil, yup 25k for a "normal" car.....

all them engineers from car manuf. to oil manuf. are WRONG!!!!

Who am I to argue? I don't know anything about the engine save some chemical reactions that happen in there.

I drive 80% highway (or more). Typically I travel about 70-80 mph, and I put about 15k miles per year on my car. You really think 5k miles is too far to go between changes? I don't think Toyota will do them more often without charging extra.

Think about it.... If they advertise a car that they say can go twice as long between oil changes it sells better.... Fact is look at your oil when u go that 7,000 miles.... It will be filthy... Check it at 3,000 I bet it's still dirty then. I would even pay for your oil change to do it at 3,000 miles and bet u that money that I'm right. Just to prove my point

Oh and your telling me that the engineers test each vehicle that they say can go 15k between oil changes up to say 100+k?.... No. I guarantee you it will have tons of oil leaks ect. Ask a BMW tech how much they make on oil leak jobs on the ones that say 15k per interval....

It comes on at 5k, not 7k. I will check it after 3k and see if it's dirty, though. I'll take pics for you.

Squoddy your oil will look new at 3k. I had one and it had 60k put on it in 2 years. I did every oil change but the first. I changed the oil at 5k and it always looked golden. Not that the look matters all that much

ask Camaro I guess. His eyes are calibrated to detect the additive break down and loss of particulate dispersion capabilities.

Now the dirtiness of oil doesn't matter? Learn something new ever day...

Oh when your tire shows metal just keep going.... It's good till your back to the layer of rubber under the metal
