Sigh...

Sup all

a while back i posted a thread asking about prices for a good 600cc bike, i was supposed to get it some time in january. well happened and now i dont have enough money to buy one. so if i do buy a motorcycle it would be a 250cc one. i was looking on craiglist and didnt see any cbr250s for sale so its pretty much either a ninja 250 or none. now, the problem(i think?) is that im 6' 1" and weigh 190. some people told me im too big for the bike. is that true? is there anyone here whos my weigh/height that rides a 250? budget: 3k.

If you've never had a bike before, the 250 wouldn't be a bad place to start. Many here will tell you the same. Wouldn't say you're too big. I'm 6'0" and was around 200 pounds the last time I was on a 250. They're fairly upright, so it's not like you have to tuck a huge frame into a ball. It was pretty comfortable, actually. Not fast by any means, but fun.

That's a waste of money, 6 months later (if you ride daily) you'll run out of power

I got my 954 for less than $4K. My buddy just sold his 02 R6 for $2800....you can get a better than 250 for your budget.

make sure the money you save will be able to cover a bike + accessories (helmets, lock etc.) + basic maintenance.

IMO..KLR 650 would suit you better than a ninja 250..they are taller...good all around..not too fast or too powerful...you can find an older one for 3k...look around on CGL. you can put street tires instead of off road or enduro tires...

Are you serious, for a first bike (assuming it is a first bike)?

Sink or swim?

OP stay away from a 1000cc bike (if this is going to be your first bike).

I see. do you think it'd be a good choice for daily commuting on highways? because i almost always drive on highways.

these answers are making me think twice about 250s haha. Another thing about it is that those tires are so small! a friend of mine had a 250 for more than a year and he told me he used to not switch lanes on highways with a lot of those botts dots..i dont know if he was exaggerating though.

If mostly what you ride is highway a 250 on houston freeways is a death trap
Fahgetaboutit
And yes, those ten speed tires will get all squirrely when you go over expansion joints or those lane dots

I bet you a lot more of the dead riders in Houston were riding liter+ bikes rather than 250s. Just saying.

I had an XT225. Thumper with 17 hp? I used to drive it 45 minutes from Lake Jackson to Houston, at about 60 mph. I drove I45, US59, I10, I610 and US290, pretty much all of them! Yes, it was slow and a right lane rider. However, Houston traffic is so friggin slow anyways, once you got to the city it wasn't a problem. I see a lot of 250 parallel twins around town, I don't think they are having too much problem keeping up with anything outside the left lane.

wouldnt waste time with a 250 either unless you NEEDED transportation and it is all you could afford/find.
