Why don't more Cruisers(specifically Harley riders) wear more protection?

Maybe it's just me being ignorant but ever since I got into the motorcycle world in Houston and Texas and life in general, I've notice a big difference between sportbike riders and cruisers/touring but more specifically harley riders. I think that harley riders should wear more protection because they just scrapped a guy up from old town spring wearing nothing but a t shirt, pants and a german helmet this past weekend....idk am I the only one that notices this difference in protective gear or am I tripping?

i understand harley riders might say their bikes are safer than sports but IMO if you are on 2 wheels, riding down 45 or 59 then you should wear a lil something more...not saying that sportbike riders are always perfect either

good friend has a v rod and wears protective gear in 10 different layers but he's the only one i can think of that i saw just in full gear on one

It's mostly pride, sadly. They dig the biker look.

Reminds me of a Ron White skit... "You can't fix stupid."

Just a mentality some people have yet to break. Just because you haven't crashed in 20 years doesn't mean tomorrow isn't your day. Just the thought of my kids seeing me rashed up (let alone my brain turned into scrambled eggs on the highway) is a good enough reason to gear up before every ride.

I really shouldn't comment on things like this so early in my motorcycle career but everytime I see a pack of cruisers out and I rarely see them fully gear'd up....and i admit i do see guys on sportbikes going down 59 or beltway 8 when not that much gear on but it still doesnt compare to guys on cruisers without

Who cares. Ride your own ride. I am one for gear but don't get online preaching about it.

Constant topic of discussion.

Image is the big factor. Some of it's just wanting to be "free", they just want to feel the wind in their hair, and lick bugs off their teeth.

Some claim that they'd rather die than end up in pain. Notably these are the usually the same folks that claim all the gear is for .

One of those things where some folks just have to learn the hard way, except that automatically means you don't live to make use of the lesson.

....for every under dressed cruiser, ive seen an under dressed or squidly non-cruiser. Best chance for a good answer... Ask a dog why they like to stick their head out of the window of a moving car.

That's a guess, not an answer....and not really applicable to what was posed.

that wasn't a joke, that wasn't trolling either imho. the part you quoted me on where you say "oh great a troll mod" is something entirely different where I was indeed joking.

I guess the best way to find out why someone does or does not do anything would be to ask them... and if they figure it is any of your business, they might answer you.

it is the harley "image" that harley has worked hard to cultivate over the years. They believe that since they are not out "hauling ", that they will be ok. it is sad, I have a cousin that almost died from a wreck on a sportster.....and still no gear.
