Sports are literally a business like any other, they create a lot of local jobs and bring in a lot of money locally. A lot of local businesses are hurting simply because there is currently no season. Austin/Texas will also lose out quite a bit from this.

Unfortunately, like most things, sports or politics, greed or discrepancies by a select number (including overpaid athletes) causes everyone to lose out. They dont care, most of those making decisions are well off regardless.

Looks like it would be a great shame to not complete this project....the money generated and the jobs arround it being lost would be a shame...

They even sent out a survey that asked a lot of questions aout what kind of tickets we wanted, how much we'd be willing to pay, other events we'd be willing to come to the track for, etc. We've answered everything they've asked.

We're ready to send the money. All they have to do is pull their heads out of their .

We will not, under any circumstances, travel to NJ for a race. NFW. If that's our only option we'll do something completely different.

I highly doubt it.

There's $40 million invested currently and that's unclear if that includes the property rights. Even if it were clear who did, $40 million isn't what I'd call affordable, nor a good investment to expect a return for doing track days on.

Not to mention the fact that the entire fiasco will be tied up in lawsuits for at least the foreseeable future between all of the assorted parties.
The property will sit there undeveloped until it's sold off to build another subdivision / shopping complex.

It sucks but I had by doubts from the get go. It seemed to be thrown together very quickly and had some very ambitious goals that needed to be accomplished quickly to remain viable. Apparently they weren't able to accomplish them and that's how they arrived here.

At least we can take some comfort that Susan Combs had the common sense to put conditions on the States investment and to withdraw from providing the money once she saw it was going down a rabbit hole.

LONDON The 2012 U.S. Grand Prix will be canceled unless the organizers in Texas sign a contract with Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone by the end of next week and prove they have the money to put on the race.

Ecclestone wants the dispute with Circuit of the Americas officials in Austin settled before the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix on Nov. 27.

Its all very simple they dont have the money, Ecclestone told The Associated Press on Thursday. We dont have a contract. If they want to come back to us, if its not signed before the end of next week, I suppose it wont be on the calendar next year.

Ecclestone wants a guarantee or a letter of credit that he will be paid.

We have been working on this now for quite a few months and years so we cant do any more, he said. We have a World Motor Sport Council meeting on the 7th of December and we need to prepare everything before that.

In response, Circuit of the Americas indicated it was looking at staging the race in 2013.

We have been excited for and working towards a 2012 USGP race and now understand that Mr. Ecclestone is interested in moving the Austin race to 2013, Circuit of The Americas president Steve Sexton said. We know the U.S. market is important to the teams and their sponsors and 2013 certainly allows time for the Circuit of the Americas to be ready.

The dispute resulted after F1 decided to scrap a previous contract it had with Tavo Hellmund, a former driver with family ties to Ecclestone who originally was granted the rights to stage the U.S. Grand Prix.

The deal with Hellmund was recently canceled over a contract breach, and F1 officials have instead been negotiating with the track developers, Circuit of the Americas.

Ecclestone said it was likely there would be one fewer race in 2012 if the Texas organizers didnt sign the contract in time.

Ecclestone said he had not considered move up the grand prix in New Jersey that is scheduled for 2013. A 10-year agreement has been reached to hold the race along the Hudson River waterfront, providing striking views of the Manhattan skyline.
