If your gonna do mostly track days I'd go with a new model 600. Re gear it and put a 520 chain kit on it with some other mods too. Newer ones perform way better than the old 600s.

If you are going to get a 1000, I think i'd go with a GSXR1000. Parts are plentiful and some of the best in Texas say it's the most stable platform. I dont know why people would recommend a zx10, that thing's a big ole POS that handles like garbage. Maybe they've never rode anything else?

I think the R6 is the 600 of choice these days.

You're responsible and a good enough rider to be able to handle whatever you want.

If you want the 1k, don't settle for a 600..

i'm a bike noob, but i'll use an old muscle car saying, since you specificially mentioned you're looking for mroe torque.

There's no replacement for displacement.

not even a question

R-6

If you would have said backroads only it would be an R-1 but the times you can set on that 6 out of the box at the track will be alot faster than its big brother, r-1s are tanks and they take some man handling. everyone I know thats went to the new r-6 have dropped tons of time.

parts and cost are factors also.

Thanks for all the opinions, I think I'm leaning towards the R6, I remember how easy it was to track and it's plenty of bike for me even on the street. Now I just have to decide if I buy a used one or a new one.

honestly I would go for the NEW gsxr 750 .. 150hp light and has plenty of torque for 2up riding!
I'm really not a fan of the r6 on the STREET no torque and you really have to wind it up to get it to go.. but great on the track!
The r1 is a lil bulky..
If I were to sell all my bikes and only have 1 it would be the new 750 without question!

I have an 09 R6 and I've borrowed my friends 09 R1. I would go with the R1, its more comfortable, the torque is nice, and you can find a good used one for around 8k. If you want a track bike I think you would have more fun on the R6. If you're tall go with the R1 for sure.
