fishing bike?

Is there a way to get a ice chest (lets say 54qt igloo marine cooler) and a couple rod holders mounted securely to a bike? I'm thinking i dont utilize my cbr600rr near its capabilities and a dual sport fishing bike would be infinitely more useful.

Seems an odd choice of bikes to try squeezing some utilitarian function out of. You'd have to mount the cooler on the pillion and that's a bad spot, in respect to CG, to put a heavy cooler with potentially sloshing liquid. Maybe sport saddlebags that are insulated enough to use as impromptu ice chests? They'd offer less storage capacity in one spot, but could make for that with stability and possibly more total area across two bins.

If you do pull it off please post some pics. That is bound to be hilarious.

Time to use the grey matter mon...

Offhand, I'd say remove the passenger pegs and fab something to fit in and work as supports. Slosh/load shift is definitly something to keep in mind with the cooler. Then something, mounted to the cooler for rod holders.

might need to acquire a welder and drill press; nickel plate when done for corrosion protection. also 54qts of ice/water should weigh about 130#. quick search shows "adventure" bikes typically have higher load carrying capacity. not sure if typical dual sports are meant to carry passengers/extra weight. also, honda's website shows they have crappy fuel capacity (like 2.5 gallons)...

it would take alot of fishing trips to make up cost in fuel savings compared to driving the tacoma. hmmm.

i fear their price tag. mostly want a fishing bike, because the taco gets around 19-20mpg or about 10 gallons of gas a trip to galveston. i'd also think a dual sport would be more capable off road than a 4x4 tacoma, but maybe i'm wrong.

The dual sport is capable, but a little more awkward when you have 150lbs of ice chest hanging off the back.

How bout a catch and release bike? or, just use one of those cold/hot storage bags, which could go in a back pack and hold a few good trout. or beer. or both.

I once carried a weedeater for about 30 miles on my sv650. That worked out ok...
An ice chest with sloshing though is not something a sport bike could handle.
A dual sport would be a good choice. You can get a large plastic tank and a bigger rear rack.
I have seen a few really nice 1 wheeled trailers, too.
