Looking to upgrade to a middleweight standard!

Hey all!

Christmas is right around the corner, and I am treating myself to a "congrats of graduating a year early from college" present (well, I graduate in May). But anyway, looking to upgrade from my 1986 Honda cb450sc to a larger bike.

I know, the 450 is a sweet ride, but I feel like I'm ready for something bigger, although I will keep the 450 until the day I die.

So, here's the deal, I want some input on where to go next. I love the standard riding position, I don't want to look like superman flying down the freeway. Also, I know its a little lame, but I'm diggin' the 09 Gladius. Of course, a monster 796 is my number one.

So, is the ABS worth it? I mean, I know it is, but is it worth it right now? Or should I buy an older used model of whatever-yall-suggest?

Also, what are some other suggestions? Oh! and I like my bikes like I like my women, naked.

Chime in boys!

You can stay Honda and get a 599 or 919.
New, the FZ8 is awesome.

The Monster is awesome. I like them.

Wait, the sv650 has ABS?

Also, I LOVE the monsters, but the buck is too high, whats your opinion on older models?

Oh, and maintenence is a key factor here. I'd rather ride that site in the garage saying "well , those parts don't come in till next week"

stick to SUZ (or ), i was looking at ducs till i got my ape 2 wks ago, main reason i didn't go duc was maint. and older ducs need more.

they discountiued the SV but i think till '08 o you could get an SV w/ ABS

Yeah the new SFVs have ABS I think. If I am not mistaken the Gladius replaced my beloved SV650s. I think some of the later model SVs came with ABS as well if you wanted it.

I was torn between the f800r and the M696 when I was shopping, because I wanted a naked middleweight with ABS (and the price premium for a M796 didn't justify the added performance in my mind). The f800r didn't fit, so I went with the M696. It is a shame that none of the japanese marques offer ABS on their middleweights, or I would have looked their way.

Edit: The ABS is nice because it takes a lot of the panic out of panic stops.

SV650 S is what he is talking about... Honestly I have 2 and I love them. Good middleweight Vtwin. 650cc , good low range torque, forgiving in the corners.

I think the Gladius replaced the Naked version but the S version is now SV650SF. Not sure though. I know they made them up through 2009 and plenty of used ones are still floating around in good condition for reasonable prices.

Ehh I rode a Hypermotard at the track and didnt like it at all...the throttle was like an on and off switch, throttle wasnt smooth at all and the big banana seat got in the way when i was trying to corner. I know nothing of the streetfighter other than it looks badass!!!

I would try the FZ8....

Hey all, sorry to not respond, today has been busy.

Ive been all over craigslist and no gladius' hanging around, of course, no one on MH has one either, (at least for sale).

What about Triumph's Street triple? Has anyone had any experience with these?

If I was buying this weekend: Ducati Monster 796 with ABS, maybe the Monster 1100 if I was feeling rich. But, I prefer a liquid cooled engine to air cooled, the extreme summer heat here bothers me with engine life.

I have not found the perfect middle weight sport bike with ABS yet.

If ABS isn't a "must" there is an FZ6 for sale here on MH.
