IMO if you take your bike to a shop to have tires changed, check the rims out, note any damages before or after, Pics are great. If the rim is damaged make them either fix it or remove the charge of installation which would be about 70.00 or higher. Get it agreed on up front. Less hassle than after the fact.

That has happened to me every time I have had a tire changed except for when I take it to Houston Superbikes. They have changed 5 tires and/or tubes for me in the last 6 months and have never left a single scratch. My rims are black so even the slightest scratch is visible.
